George Will: Webb conveys the message of a boor
Manchester Union Leader ^ | 11/30/06 | George F. Will

THAT WAS certainly swift. Washington has a way of quickly acculturating people, especially those who are most susceptible to derangement by the derivative dignity of office. But Jim Webb, Democratic senator-elect from Virginia, has become a pompous poseur and an abuser of the English language before actually becoming a senator.

Wednesday's Washington Post reported that at a White House reception for newly elected members of Congress, Webb "tried to avoid President Bush," refusing to pass through the reception line or have his picture taken with the President. When Bush asked Webb, whose son is a Marine in Iraq, "How's your boy?" Webb replied, "I'd like to get them (sic) out of Iraq." When the President again asked, "How's your boy?" Webb replied, "That's between me and my boy." Webb told the Post

I think Webb is most comfortable when writing about encounters between men and young boys.

Great line from George Will in this piece:

Webb's more gross offense was calculated rudeness toward another human being -- one who, disregarding many hard things Webb had said about him during the campaign, asked a civil and caring question, as one parent to another.

Bingo.
Webb proved himself, as Democrats always do, to be an ass.

On another thread there was a link posted to Webb's son myspace page, which included ---

Webb Jr. in his USMC uniform wearing a rice paddy hat and yucking it up for some reason;

Webb Jr. soliciting people to send him various kinds of porn in Iraq, which not only is gross but is against theater rules;

Etc. It's not pretty.

Because, according to previous Wa Po articles, the large (50,000+) Muslim population in northern VA came out in droves to vote against Allen as a proxy for Bush.

Certainly enough to tip the scales in the election.

My son asked me last night if it was possible to impeach a US Senator. I said I didn't think it had ever been succesfully done (although Blount WAS expelled by the Senate). If Webb keeps this stuff up, this question might actually get answered.

Probably also between him and his boy. If I were his kid, I'd probably want to flee home.

The easiest way to get a Senator out is to get the members to expel him. It's possible, but only if he really makes sure he has no friends left among Democrats. Even though a Dem would replace him right now, they don't want a short-lived incumbent in 2012.
