He is a social conservative .... (Mr. Hunter introduced H.R. 552 the Right to Life Act, which proposes to "implement equal protection for the right to life of each born and preborn human person."). He is further to the right on social issues than either John McCain, Rudy Giuliani or Mitt Romney.
A Vietnam veteran, Mr. Hunter was first elected to Congress in 1980, when he won in a long-shot bid over 18-year Democratic incumbent Lionel Van Deerlin. When asked why he is up to the challenge of a presidential run Mr. Hunter told me, "because I believe national security and a strong military are more important issues today than ever before. On Iraq, Mr. Hunter points to a pattern he says America has followed for the past 60 years, "My campaign message on Iraq will consist of a three-step process: Establish a free government, which we've done, establish a military that will protect that government, and then leave Iraq."
Regarding Iraq, Mr. Hunter provided me with a letter he recently wrote to President Bush urging the president "to accelerate the process of deploying Iraqi forces to security environments that force them to engage in difficult military operations.
On the issues of border security and illegal immigration, Mr. Hunter has been a vocal critic and an advocate of tougher illegal immigration laws. "I don't look at the border as an immigration issue, I look at it as a national security issue. After we built the border fence along the San Diego-Tijuana region, smuggling and drugs were reduced in that area by 90 percent.
History suggests that voters in early primary states will recognize and embrace a message of peace through strength, conservative social values and conservative illegal immigration policy.

This is why it is so stupid to try and "annoint" Gulianni or McCain now for 2008. Who knows who will pop up this year.
I hear him talk to Mark Larson at KOG600AM - he sounds like a nice guy.
Here is an article about Duncan Hunter...
He sure sounds "good" to me....I am glad more information is getting written about him.
I don't care if he is from the house (and to some an automatic disqualifier). The more I hear, the more I like him.
More on Hunter.
The DBM will do their best to make sure you hear as little as possible.
Johnnie, we are in agreement. See there, miracles can happen!
Well, we will just have to circumvent the DBM won't we.
Thanks, sleuth. I'll read it. We are looking for a standard bearer early, but I guess we need to.
However, good luck to him.
Regards, Ivan

If he runs I'll definitely take a close look at him. Right now I'm a bit politicked out.

"WASHINGTON More Iraqi troops should be committed to the fight against the insurgency and sectarian violence in Baghdad and Anbar before any decisions are made on the use of U.S. forces, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter said yesterday.
Hunter, R-Alpine, said thousands of trained and equipped Iraqi soldiers are stationed in areas where there is little or no violence and they should be sent where the fighting is. He was reacting to reports that a Pentagon study group created by Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff"
Finally, someone I can be excited about for '08!
Shall we be a slave to history? There has never been a women president either, but it sure looks like we might get one.
Yes, I agree McCain is just too much of a nut case.
I wouldn't be looking this "early" usually...but, with no one from the White House to run...and with the MSM pushing Obama, and Hillary, and McCain.
We have to have others get some exposure...with the rest of America...and it may be up to the alt. media to PUSH to get him as much attention as we can.
But, that doesn't mean we lock onto one person...but, dang, the dems are already "set", right? Clinton/Obama, right?
Everything I've heard so far from/about Duncan Hunter sounds good. I saw a few great clips of him last night on Fox News. Hopefully we will have a clear conservative alternative to the two supposed GOP front runners. Though if it comes down to it and I had to choose between the RINOs I'd go with Rudy cause I'm convinced McCrazy is mentally unbalanced on top of his love affair with the MSM and stomping of the First Amendment.
James, I think it's time we started making history instead of the beltway bandits!
