Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to headoff potential terror attacks.

A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia and her Queen at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his Ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to wake up tomorrow and find that John Howard was President of the United States?

My first thought was to amend the Constitution to allow Howard to become our president and have the congresslady from florida be VP.

What is it about our country that draws the worst of our society to politics?

Hell, with policies like this, I'd agree to King of the US.

That is an excellent question. There are really no statesmen (ok, very few, I can't name one but someone probably can) anymore. It is all about power/money/self now. I don't think it was at first, clearly our founding fathers were thinking past their own benefit.

How insensitive. Doesn't everyone have a right to impose his own form of religious totalitarianism on his neighbor? What would the good people of Europe say about this clarion Aussie call for Liberty be? How gauche.

The Aussies might survive the next 100 years, where some others (including us?) might not be so lucky....

"What is it about our country that draws the worst of our society to politics?"

Greed. Even when we attempt something positive like term limits, it seems to backfire. In the last year as a "lame duck," many state legislators are trying to sell their souls for a lobbying gig.

"...he and his Ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown."

Good for John Howard. We could use a few hundred politicians like him. There is a profound lack of politicians having the large bi-spherical nature of John Howard in this country.

Yeah...unfortunately Article I, Section IX, Subsection VIII of the US Constitution forbides titles of nobility to be established. But in this case, I think we can make an amendment!

I didn't write that. My comment is wouldn't it be great to wake up tomorrow and see him as President (it can't happen, but I can dream).

Somebody else wanted him for king. But, that's okay with me too.

I think its funny that Australia was founded by criminals, yet they know how to preserve their values as is obviously shown here. Whereas we were founded by Puritans, and look at the moral decay that the modern Dems call "progress"

I'd happily make him King of the Universe, with former Italian PM Berlusconi as his successor.

Australia may become a superpower in this century.

Maybe we ought to live under their hedgemony instead of the other way around. I'm so sick of DC these days and both political parties selling us out to the third world.

Here is another great quote from the article...

"IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture."
...and another...

"Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right; wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture."
Frankly, given this tone, I might consider moving to Australia.
