Hope folks will give Rudy a chance. At least hear him out before discounting him.

He may redefine himself outside NYC for a national office.

GWB redefined himself after getting elected. Spending and Immigration are two areas.

CNN, in fact, none of the media show these types of things happening in Iraq, only the doom and gloom. The Pubbies should be talking about this, too! At least it's getting reported in the Australian media (1st one):

Iraqi police kill 53 'al-Qaeda' militants Sunday Telegraph ^ | Nov. 5, 2006 | Australia Sunday Telegraph

Posted on 11/04/2006 10:19:41 AM PST by FairOpinion

IRAQI police commandos killed 53 suspected al-Qaeda militants in a fierce gunbattle on the southern outskirts of Baghdad overnight, an interior ministry spokesman said.

"This afternoon we received intelligence reports that gunmen were endangering the security of the region," said Brigadier General Abdel Karim Khalaf, referring to the Baghdad suburb of Tuwaitha. "They are al-Qaeda.

"The National Police had a severe fight with them and as a result of these clashes, they killed 53 terrorists, arrested 16, burned 40 cars and seized many weapons."

I have heard at least a dozen times in the last few days that the "indicator" for how things are going to turn out in the House, will be how three of the GOP Reps from Connecticut fare...like Christopher Shays and 2 others...

If they go down, the pundits say, then it will "cause a wave across America"....

But, they have been saying that Montana would be the bellwether of the Senate...and it is in what? the Pacific time zone, Mountain time zone???

With the news today that some polls show Lincoln Chaffee at least even with, or ahead in Rhode Island, after being so far behind...I think THAT is the race to watch.

If Lincoln wins in Rhode Island...I think it will make the Montana seat moot...

What say ya'll???

Does that apply to all cabinet positions because they are all appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate or is it just Secretary of State and Defense and does this apply whoever is in power?

As a matter of tradition the members of the cabinet do not engage in overtly political activities, particularly State and Defense.  It's not a legal matter but one of style and good taste.  This president has tried to restore some of the decorum that the bent one stripped from the office of the President.  Of course, it's also traditional that the Presidential spokesman avoids overtly political activities, but Tony Snow has been a big draw this campaign season.  Of course when Tony does it even participating in politics is a class act.  Few others could pull that off, even Condi or Rummy (though I'd pay to see Rummy).

If you want something to contemplate, try this one. I cannot believe this is legal. On another press release a woman is having a ballot party and talking about food and liquor being served with a dance afterwards. I'll leave it to Freepers to guess which political party is promoting this behavior.

Sky-high interest in election in ethnic communities

By JOHN IWASAKI
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

Jirdeh Abdalallah escaped civil war in Somalia to become a U.S. citizen in 2000, a year in which his new country was split not by tribal bloodshed but by a presidential election.

Mindful of that lesson in democracy, he mailed in his absentee ballot last weekend, the first time the Seattle man has voted here.

"We were foreigners. We don't know all the situation in this country," Abdalallah said yesterday, explaining why he hadn't exercised his voting rights before. "Day after day, we understand the situation. ... Now it's time to vote -- everyone -- because it's a presidential election."

The election is driving interest skyward in the ethnic and immigrant communities, where concern over the Iraq war, civil liberties and health care has prompted thousands of people of color to register to vote for the first time.

Several local organizations have targeted specific groups in their campaigns to increase voting by Muslims, Asian/Pacific Islanders, African Americans and Latinos.

"With a presidential election, it's like a worldwide presidency -- the interest is tremendous," said Cheryl Lee, president of the Korean American Voters Alliance, which held its convention last weekend. "We're getting lots of phone calls -- people like my granny's friend -- asking, 'where do I vote, where do I call?' I'm delighted."

A joint campaign by Hate Free Zone Washington and the Seattle chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations has registered more than 1,200 voters, mostly Muslims. The advocacy groups are presenting information this week in several cities on the electoral process, candidates and issues.

"The Muslim and Sikh communities, in particular, have felt targeted by a lot of government policies," said Karol Brown, acting policy coordinator of Hate Free Zone Washington. "They've really felt the impact since 9/11. There's a definite sense that this election is critically important."

Her organization, along with others working to get out the vote, say their efforts are informational and non-partisan to adhere to regulations governing non-profit entities, but political sentiments sometimes surface.

During a presentation to immigrants in North Seattle on Tuesday, Brown talked about civil liberties and the Patriot Act, which she said allowed the government to "go into your home and look for things and leave and never tell you why they were there, (which) we feel weakened our rights."

That, she said, is "scary stuff."

One of the Muslim women in the audience emigrated from Libya and became a U.S. citizen three years ago. She opposes the war with Iraq and believes the hunt for terrorists in Afghanistan could have been done with fewer civilian casualties.

"I believe it's important for Muslims to act," said the woman, who will cast her first vote for a U.S. president on Tuesday and asked that her name not be published.

More than 12,000 mailings have been sent to registered voters with Asian/Pacific Islander surnames by local members of Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote 2004, a coalition of non-profit groups that is focusing on Washington and eight other states.

The coalition just completed its phone bank campaign, getting commitments to vote from 889 registered voters, said Stephen Nadal, Washington coordinator of APIAVote 2004. The coalition left messages for another 800 or so voters and will go door-to-door in eight south Seattle precincts Saturday and Monday.

A social service agency for Chinese Americans in the International District recently held a series of voter workshops for the elderly, many of whom had not voted before last month's primary election.

The blizzard of campaign fliers and commercials is intimidating to someone whose native language is not English, said Debbie Hsu, fund developer for the Chinese Information and Service Center.

"Some clients ask us, 'Will you vote for me?' They understand voting is important. We tell them some services they get are directly tied to the election," she said.

More than 1,250 Chinese language mail ballots have been requested by King County voters, nearly an eightfold increase from the number requested for the 2000 general election. Under federal law, foreign-language ballots must be provided when the census shows that more than 10,000 people, or more than 5 percent of the voting-age population in a single language group in an area, don't speak English well. The county met the threshold for Chinese-speaking citizens.

One of those using the Chinese language ballot is Miao Ci Huang, an immigrant who voted for the first time last month, though she gained U.S. citizenship nearly eight years ago.

Asked why she hadn't voted until now, Huang said through a translator that she was so busy baby-sitting some of her 12 grandchildren that she "did not have time to take care of other things," but this year's presidential contest has pulled her in.

The Seattle-King County branch of the NAACP has registered 450 voters in 40 locations countywide, everywhere from outside Wal-Mart stores to churches, said Gayle Johnson, voter empowerment coordinator.

"Some people had been apathetic," she said. "Since there's so much interest around the presidential election now, they're feeling they needed to participate. And because of the war, whether they were for or against it."

Local members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People are making phone calls to targeted voters from the offices of the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle.

The Eastside Latino Leadership Forum held a candidate forum earlier this month and passed out voter registration information in Crossroads, a culturally diverse area of east Bellevue.

Some immigrants who gained citizenship have never voted, even though some have lived here a decade or more, said John Carmargo, past president of the Latino group.

"They say this is not their country, so there's not a sense of ownership," he said. "They really don't pay attention to politics."

Other Latino voters include "those who say we need a (presidential) change and those who think we're doing well right now with small businesses," he said, "so I see it both ways."

While any candidate can make promises, what matters to Carmargo is what happens after Election Day.

"We think, can we trust this person?" he asked. "Do they only care about our vote? Will we hear from them again? We'd like to have access to that person."

Pramila Jayapal, executive director of Hate Free Zone Washington, made a related comment during her group's presentation to immigrants in north Seattle earlier this week.

"This is the most important lesson," she said. "You shouldn't trust everything people say."

I get it fine, and I have stated how I feel about Fox. All of the media will be shocked at how they will be ignored no matter what the outcome of the elections. They have been jumping the shark for quite a while,Fox is just the latest Media Leader to come aboard the Shark Jumpers Association that indulge in self immolation.

Montana is in Mountain Time Zone. I personally don't think that CT going down will cause a wave (but others are much better informed on this type thing than I). I've also heard that Missouri is the bellwether state. If Steele wins MD, will that cause a Red Wave - I don't think anyone is mentioning that. What if some/all of the Pubbies in IN and OH pull it out?? I would think that would have a great impact on others.

I'm not sure I go as far as to say Linc's win in RI would make Burns' win in MT moot, but it would sure help! I think you're like I am - we'll take all the wins we can get. There have been articles that Stevens may resign from the SCOTUS. If that happens we need the largest majority in the Senate we can muster. The Dims will go ballistic. If Stevens departs, I hope the Pres nominates Mark Levin :-)

This idiot Dim Strategist on FNC just said 30 seats in the House. Can't think of his name, he's on a lot, balding and round tortise shell glasses. Wishful thinking on his part.

Yup, the people in San Francisco hold the right to use the doorways of businesses as their private toilets. The hold the right to sleep on the sidewalk in front of any home or business they please.

They also hold the right to use the public sidewalks as their private garbage dumps.

San Francisco values, indeed.

Since a statement was made that Mrs. Brit Hume would NOT be discussing the reason for her departure from Fox, one would rightfully assume it was not a mutual decision.

Don't forget that FNC regularly uses polls that are heavily weighted with democrats and they just don't bother to mention that little fact. Why they even bother to report the polls tells me they are part of the MSM spin machine.
