Okay, so the Kum-by-Yah Rats will oppose genocide but only if--- (a) large (and no doubt wealthy) numbers of persons of the same ethnic background as those being murdered are part of their political constituency, and (b) if the genocide occurred close to 100 years ago, thereby making it purely a political---indeed, almost academic--- question, rather than one that might raise the horrid specter of a requirement for military action.

We (US) haven't officially recognized the Armenian Genocide because it would piss off Turkey.
I had the pleasure of meeting the late Rev. Hartunian - the Elie Weisel of the Armenian Genocide. He had some interesting things to say about the "religion of peace." One of them was that he remembered his father predicting a world war with Islam because of it's incompatibility with Christian values.

Also after both Turkey and Algeria have announced "retaliatory" boycotts and counter resolutions?
Turkey has already begun to ally with Iran against the PKK, who sometimes mix with our allies the Kurds. Of course this would tick Turkey off at a critical time, but the Representative and most Democrats don't care about the middle east.
Maybe I'm oversimplifying, but if most Democrats support anti-Christian policy, is it any surprise they really aren't interested in mid east allies and stability?

The dems don't give a damn about genocide in Iraq or much of anywhere else - all they care about is pandering to whoever they can find, and apparently today is "pander to Armenians" day. BTW I have nothing whatever against Armenians; some of my favorite people in the Central Valley in CA are of Armenian descent.
It is all well and good to condemn the genocide that was committed against the Armenians, but it is 90 years or so too late. And I do believe that that dark moment in history has been neglected. Now, if Pelosi were to were to condemn the genocide and slavery going on right now in Sudan and campaigned to give the people over there weapons to defend themselves, then I might be more impressed.
The Armenian genocide was the most successful of the 20th century, makes Rwanda look like a playground spat, and it became the model for Hitler's Holocaust. The Armenians are the descendants of the early Christian church and what they endured foreshadowed our current fight against Islamo-terrorism. In fact, it was such a successful genocide that these people are barely a footnote in modern history. (After all, history is mostly recorded by the winners and if there is no one to tell the tale, who will remember?)
In spite of underlying contempt for its neighbors, particularly the Kurds, Turkey is on the path of European acceptance. In the case of Turkey, acknowledging that this happened and assuming some level of responsibility would be a magnanimous diplomatic gesture. It wouldn't bring anybody back but it would show that unlike some of its Muslim cousins, the Turks can function in the western world. It's a matter of taking responsibility. If Germany could take responsibility for the Holocaust, why can't Turkey take responsibility for what happened to the Armenians?
Alrighty. Since it's been going on in Tibet for over fifty years let's deal with that first. Then maybe we can talk about Armenia.
