YEREVAN (YERKIR) - U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), a longtime supporter of Armenian American issues who is expected to become Speaker if the Democrats win a majority in the House this November, pledged today to support Armenian Genocide legislation next year during in the 110th session of Congress.

In a statement released to Harut Sassounian, Publisher of the California Courier, Congresswoman Pelosi stated that: "I have supported legislation, including H.Res.316, that would properly acknowledge the Armenian Genocide. She probably thinks "Armenian" refers to the perpetrators.

There's really no reason for the US to recognize anything we didn't do.

This is a question for history, not a vote in the Senate and House.

Miss Nancy has some Armenians in her district I think.

Exactly. The Iraqis could be genocided all their enemies want and it wouldn't move the Rats to action.

No offense to the Armenians (I am opposed to genocide wherever and to whomever it occurs), but, really, Nancy, in the hierarchy of things going wrong in the world today, you choose to make your stand on Armenia?

Somehow this reminds me of one of Bubba's state of the union addresses where he talked about things such as SCHOOL UNIFORMS. I kid you not. This was what had captured the attention and earnest analysis of the most powerful man in the free world.

What the Turks did in Armenia, I think, is pretty much condemned by all as one of the darkest things in human history.

ANC LEADS COMMUNITY IN COMMEMORATING AND SEEKING JUSTICE FOR ARMENIAN GENOCIDE VICTIMS

ANC Officials Speak at Record Number of Events in Colorado, Nevada, Texas, Arizona and Dozens of other Commemorative Programs in California

Los Angeles, CA - The Armenian Genocide and its continued denial are crimes against humanity. With this simple message, ANC officials and chapters launched a new round of activism this April 24th at dozens of events that were held across the Western United States.

From Colorado, Nevada, Texas, Arizona, to the cities of San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego, Pasadena and Los Angeles, ANC officials either organized or spoke at events marking the 88th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The ANC also took on the role of securing media coverage for many of these events.

"I am proud of the ANC activists and community members who worked so hard this year to ensure that the murder of 1.5 million Armenian Christians in 1915 is never forgotten," explained ANCA-WR Chairman Raffi Hamparian. "The Turkish Lobby and its allies should know that the ANC and our dedicated supporters are determined to fight their immoral campaign to deny the Armenian Genocide," he added.

No, I mean financial reparations here in the states for "any victims of past abuse". Something like 100K per person.

Great. In another 80 years, the Dems can propose recognition of the Rwandan genocide.

and move to renew our commitment to eliminate genocide whenever and wherever it exists.

Good, so that means you support our removal of the genocidal Saddam Hussein.

Otherwise,if not, you are a LIAR.

I do not think anything of Nancy Peolosi -- well actually I think some very evil things about her to be honest -- but I want to say that the historical question of what happened to the Armenians in the First World War is not in any way a political one and the truth is absolutely awful. It was the first bona fide instance of genocide in the world in the twentieth century, in which the Muslim Turks killed over 1.5 million Christian Armenians starting in 1915 and continuing into the 1920's, though the worst of it was concentrated in the period 1915-1918.

I have read a great deal about the Armenian tragedy and, make no mistake about it, it is REAL! You might want to read what Senator Bob Dole said about it in 1996.

The Turks have instituted legal suppression of the press and academia in Turkey to prevent any truthful telling of the story. It is awful.

Okay Nancy Pebotox, how come no legislation on the genocide in the Sudan???

Oh yeah, I remember now. In that case they are slaughtering Christians. And we all know, in the liberal mind Christians are expendable, or at the least 2/3 of a person.

True, and in no way diminishing the facts, but the sad irony here for geopolitics today is that Nancy Pelosi is willing to stand up for those long ago oppressed, but unwilling to do squat---and, in fact, willing to completely undermine the efforts of those who do want to stand up for freedom today.

Also, there is the sad irony that the leader of the Cut-n-Run Democrats actually has the gall to preach that we, the good and decent people of America, need to commit ourselves to opposing genocide. As if.
