Actor Fox stars in campaign ad for Doyle
A television ad for Democratic Governor Jim Doyle is the latest done by actor Michael J. Fox, who's backing candidates across the country who support embryonic stem cell research.
Fox has Parkinson's disease and has recorded other ads on behalf of candidates supporting the research. The issue may have more potency here because University of Wisconsin scientists have been pioneers in the field.
Fox speaks directly into the camera, with his Parkinson tremors evident, is asking voters to re-elect Doyle. Fox says Doyle's Republican opponent, Mark Green, has stood in the way of research that could lead to cures and new jobs.
Congressman Green has voted against expanding federal funding for the research because days-old human embryos are destroyed to obtain the cells.
Fox has been politically active for Democratic causes. He campaigned for John Kerry in the 2004 presidential race and lobbied Congress to lift President Bush's restrictions on funding for stem cell research.

You know, I have some stock jokes/references in my classes, and one of them was to the DeLorean scene in "Back to the Future." Increasingly, no one even knows that movie or who MJ Fox is. Hollywood types think because they were once in the public eye, everyone knows them. In fact, many people under 30 would be clueless as to who he is.
I suppose its human nature for a person to take up a fight in which he believes some cure may be found for his particular disease, but Michael seems a little selfish.
There are many issues to be thought about when picking a candidate, Michael sems to have only one. IMO they should give him those stem cells if thats what he wants. But someone should tell him that every rat who has been given stem cells has grown tumors .

The approach that is used by Democrats to this issue is as if there was no field of bioethics, no question of whether science and medicine can intrude on ethical and moral boundaries regarding life and human dignity.
President Bush and the Republican Congress are not restricting embryonic stem cell research, they are merely prohibiting federal funds from supporting that research. California has floated $3B in bonds, the result of a popular referendum issue, to support embryonic stem cell research. If embryonic stem cells as an avenue of scientific inquiry turn out to be a dry hole - I'm sure California taxpayers will pay the interest costs for years to come with a smile.
The Michael J. Fox ad is very offensive - I hope the Democrats use it everywhere - it's the Wellstone funeral of the 2006 election cycle.

No it's not. The ballot measure reads as follows:
Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to allow and set limitations on stem cell research, therapies, and cures which will:
- ensure Missouri patients have access to any therapies and cures, and allow Missouri researchers to conduct any research, permitted under federal law;
-ban human cloning or attempted cloning;
-require expert medical and public oversight and annual reports on the nature and purpose of stem cell research;
-impose criminal and civil penalties for any violations; and
prohibit state or local governments from preventing or discouraging lawful stem cell research, therapies and cures?
Cloning is banned. Talent is against it, McCaskill is for it which is why Fox is campaigning for her. The amendment should pass by a considerable margin, if polls be accurate.
It's probably the same script, just change the name to candidate of choice.
Exactly. Why is this NEVER mentioned in any stem cell debate??

Dear Mr. Michael J. Fox;
I have a modest proposal for the increased support for the use of embyonic stem cells in the treatment of Parkinson's Disease.
You should impregante your wife and then harvet the stem cells from the embryo. This, I feel, would demonstrate to the whole world your total commitment to the cause of embryonic stem cell research. I would also propose that you video tape the entire procedure and make it available on the internet.
Second I would propose that to further the cause of tissue and organ transplants, you might want to consider harveting some organs from one of your four children and then donate them to a worth canidate.
I think there are great opportunities available for you to promote those worthy causes you are involved in. I stand ready to assist you at any opportunity.

He is claiming that Steele doesn't want stem cell research, when all the time Talent is the one that voted against it.
