Leave it to the party of Sandy Berger.
The AP reports today that a Democrat staffer on the House Intelligence Committee has been suspended by Chairman Peter Hoekstra (R.-Mich.) and "is being denied access to classified information pending the outcome of a review."
What happened? This staffer may have "leaked a high-level intelligence assessment to the news media." From the AP report:
The leak to The New York Times of a National Intelligence Estimate on global terror trends caused a political uproar last month. In the assessment, completed in April, analysts from the government's 16 spy agencies concluded that the Iraq war has become a "cause celebre" for Islamic extremists, breeding deep resentment of the U.S. that probably will get worse before it gets better.
President Bush suggested the document was leaked for "political purposes" weeks before the midterm elections. He later made public four pages of the estimate's key findings.
In a letter to Hoekstra dated Sept. 29, Rep. Ray LaHood, R-Ill., a committee member, said the Democratic staffer requested the document from National Intelligence Director John Negroponte three days before a Sept. 23 story by the Times on its conclusions.
"I have no credible information to say any classified information was leaked from the committee's minority staff, but the implications of such would be dramatic," LaHood said in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press. "This may, in fact, be only coincidence, and simply 'look bad.' But coincidence, in this town, is rare."
Of course, Democrats have gone into conniptions over this, led by the committee's ranking member, Jane Harman (Calif.), who, in a letter to Hoekstra, said she is "appalled" and considers Hoekstra's actions to have been "without basis." She also wrote: "I demand that you immediately reinstate the staffer's access to classified information." Committee Democrats were also none too thrilled.
A conference call to the committee's nine Democrats on Wednesday to inform them of the aide's suspension prompted outrage, said two congressional officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about internal committee business.
Now wait just a minute.
Democrats have been blasting the GOP, specifically the House leadership, more specifically Speaker Dennis Hastert (Ill.), for not following the clues of Mark Foley's "over friendly e-mail" to a House page and keeping him away from the pages -- particularly the male pages. And the Democrats are totally justified in those criticisms.
But now they're complaining that Republicans may be following the clues to nail whoever might have been leaking secret intelligence information to the media.
Are Democrats concerned about the safety of American kids or not?
They're happy to protect American kids when it comes to keeping young boys away from a homosexual internet predator, but -- no, wait, that's not what they've said. They want to protect kids from predators more generally -- though that is not where the "clues the GOP should have put together" actually led.
But they're not willing to protect American kids from outside invaders when the "clues the GOP should have put together" point to one of their own.
Rocks and glass houses still don`t go together
The Democrats cannot be trusted with National Security.
Voters are beginning to realize this and that is why the tide is turning for the GOP in the polls. When the average voter starts thinking about who will protect them, they realize that the Democrats fail the test.
"We killed the Patriot Act". That's the sum total of the Democratic plan to fight terrorism.
I am shocked!
The Democrats cannot be trusted with National Security.
Democrats cannot be trusted, period.
I'm not a party animal, but when that happens, I think I'll start.
The leaker per Fox News is:
Larry Hanauer
Democrats outraged over being outraged! When are they not outraged by something? They are the political "chicken littles" of our time.
Ditto that.
Thanks for the Ping
DOUBLEMINDEDNESS IS NOT THE WORD FOR IT.
DOUBLE TRAITOROUSNESS MIGHT BE.
I think he works for Joe Crowley (Rat-NY)
"Democrats cannot be trusted, period."
Roger that.
Say it loud, say it often.
bttt! Shaking my head here, once again, at the hypocrisy and lies of the Dems.
We was a mole working for Hoekstra.
Apparently the Democrats have decided only some catastrophe leading to economic collapse would enable them an opportunity to seize control of the government.
>>In the next week or so "Carl The Great" will drop the other shoe on them and grind them farther into minority control.<<
Can't wait! Supposedly, the ads will feature Dems making assinine comments on national security and other issues.
