HARRY REID: Senator's expenses questioned
Review Journal.com ^ | Oct 17,2006 | John Solomon

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid has been using campaign funds instead of his personal money to pay Christmas bonuses for the support staff at the Ritz-Carlton, where he lives in an upscale condominium.

Federal election law bars candidates from converting political donations for personal use.

Questioned about the campaign expenditures, Reid's office said Monday the senator's lawyers had approved them, but he nonetheless was personally reimbursing his campaign for the $3,300 he had directed to the staff holiday fund at his residence.

"These donations were made to thank the men and women who work in the building for the extra work they do as a result of my political activities, and for helping the security officers assigned to me because of my Senate position," Reid said.

"I am reimbursing the campaign from my own pocket to prevent this issue from being used in the current campaign season to deflect attention from Republican failures," he said.

Well it is ok if Dingy Harry does it, he is a Demoncrap. It is only an ethics violation that warrants a full scale investigation if he is a Republican.

If he can pay it back out of his pocket, why couldn't he pay it out of there in the first place?

"These donations were made to thank the men and women who work in the building for the extra work they do as a result of my political activities, and for helping the security officers assigned to me because of my Senate position," Reid said.

There is no report of him giving ANY other money than this money. But the condo association has a fund for these christmas bonuses, which most of the residents contribute to out of their own money simply to reward the staff for their regular duties.

Reid here is saying the only reason he gave them money was for the "extra work they did for him".

So, what about the normal christmas bonus for just being normal workers? Was Reid to cheap to give out bonuses?

Harry Reid doesn't seem to know what the federal Laws are , amazing since he is the Senate Minority Leader. Amazing isn't it, since he has been in the Senate since 1986....20 years ..looks like he would know the federal laws , especially with sons who are lawyers.

It doesn't matter. That's the case with many congressmen - no one will question that. The funds thing though, that has legs.

Yep, you do need to repeat it. Picked up the WSJ today and its cover was that "fresh revelations" were affecting the campaign. Of course, it lead off with Weldon's daughter and THEN mentioned Reid's land deal problems (as if to suggest that Weldon's was the bigger scandal). Too bad it neglected to mention that what it judged to be the bigger problem (offspring lobbyists) was a problem also affecting Dingy Harry four fold.

--and in the Catch-22 of media bias, one of the Demotraitor angles to it is that "the media aren't even bothering with it, knowing that there's really nothing wrong with what he did"----

"Reid's office said Monday the senator's lawyers had approved them"

Is this a precedence?  If I get a lawyer to approve of illegal activity before I commit said activity, does this mean it's okay?

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid accepted free ringside tickets from the Nevada Athletic Commission to three professional boxing matches while that state agency was trying to influence him on federal regulation of boxing.

Reid, D-Nev., took the free seats for Las Vegas fights between 2003 and 2005 as he was pressing legislation to increase government oversight of the sport, including the creation of a federal boxing commission that Nevada’s agency feared might usurp its authority. http://www.texasrainmaker.com/2006/05/30/harry-reids-culture-of-corruption-continues/

And some Freepers still bristle at the notion of criticizing the useless Repubs in Congress --- where is the fight, the call for Dingy Harry to be thrown out --- the call for his whole scam to be investigated?? ... what do we hear.

Dead silence. Useless, cowardly silence.
