NEW YORK -- Civil rights lawyer Lynne Stewart was sentenced to 28 months in prison in federal court in Manhattan Monday. She was convicted of providing support to terrorists by helping a jailed Egyptian sheik communicate with his followers on the outside.
Before sentencing, her lawyer told the judge that any prison sentence for Stewart would be a death sentence because of her serious health problems.
Stewart pleaded with the judge to allow her to live out the rest of her life "productively, lovingly, righteously.''
Assistant US Attorney Andrew Dember rejected defense suggestions that Stewart's conduct was judged differently after
9-11.
"This case had nothing to do with September 11,'' Dember told the judge. "What she was doing was smuggling terrorism messages and smuggling out Abdel-Rahman's responses.''
When Stewart arrived at the courthouse this morning, about 150 supporters chanted "Free Lynne, Free Lynne.''
Federal prosecutors say she had released a statement by Omar Abdel-Rahman, a blind sheik sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted in plots to blow up five New York landmarks and assassinate Egypt's president.
Thank you! She's nothing but a traitor.
If this was 1943 and you substituted any Japanese or German agent for Rahman, Stewart would have been executed without fanfare or debate. Likewise if Sandy Berger had been a FDR aide caught stealing/destroying documents regarding what his Administration knew about Pearl Harbor in mid-inquiry, he too would have been executed. These two cases show just how low our culture has sunk into the cesspool of liberalism.

She may have only gotten 28 months, but she got life with that face.

Her beloved terrorists are in jail. It's NY after all. No death penalty despite the fact that people died in the 93 WTC bombing.
There is a Wizard of Id cartoon where the Judge (the King) has just sentenced this decrepit old guy to 20 years or so. The defendant's lawyer (Larsen E. Pettifogger) protests that "My client doesn't have twenty years!" The King responds, "Just tell him to do the best he can."
So in NY you serve around 36 per cent of your time for a felony? Wow, that's pathetic! Here in VA it's 50% for a misdemeanor and 85% for a felony.
Anyway I"m gald the judge didn't just turn her loose for being so sincere and having her heart in the left, uh, right place.

Hopefully the prison is better at meting out punishment than this judge was."
Electing DemonRATS this Nov. will give us more of these idiot judges. Aside from that, does anyone know if there is any documentation of what information she transmitted for the Sheikh?
