Wis. prof compares Bush to Hitler

October 11, 2006

MILWAUKEE -- A University of Wisconsin instructor who has come under scrutiny for saying that the U.S. government orchestrated the Sept. 11 attacks compares President Bush to Adolf Hitler in an essay that his students are being required to buy.

The essay, ''Interpreting the Unspeakable: The Myth of 9/11,'' is part of a $20 book of essays, according to an unedited copy.

The book is on the syllabus for the twice-a-week course, Islam: Religion and Culture, being taught by part-time instructor Kevin Barrett.

Barrett is active in a group called Scholars for 9/11 Truth, whose members say U.S. officials, not al-Qaida terrorists, were behind the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

''Like Bush and the neocons, Hitler and the Nazis inaugurated their new era by destroying an architectural monument and blaming its destruction on their designated enemies,'' he wrote.

Barrett said he was comparing the attacks to the burning of the German parliament building, the Reichstag, in 1933.

What's wrong with making a comparison? Bush = good Hitler = bad.

It's simple. (All things being relative.)

Professors saying that Bush=Hitler and that America is an evil country is par for the course here at UW-Madison.

Since when do we send our young people to colleges that don't teach the truth. If a Professor brings in a book, written by a rabid nutcase from either end of the political string, and calls it truth...he should be fired. Shame on the University of Wisconsin....it knows better than that. Kids should understand there are two sides to every argument...and learn where they land in the knowledge of both. This is NOT being taught today...look at Columbia University for goodness sakes!!

I'd like to see this @ssclown put his money where his mouth is. He should start by calculating how much he has saved in taxes thanks to President Bush's tax cuts and donating that entire amount to charity.

(I suspect someone will have to do the calculations for him.)

Wis. prof compares Bush to Hitler (publicly without fear of prison, death, etc.)

Ergo, demonstrating that Bush IS NOT Hitler.

You got it!! There is a whole list of things I would like to add to your list!! The U. of Wisconsin used to be a good place to send your kids to school...many in my family graduated from there, including myself, so I know the school. This ISN'T the place I went to and if this is what they have in the teaching department...things have really gone down the drain!!

Sadly, it''s par for the course at most universities today. In fact, "Associate Lecturer" is frequently the job description of someone who if expelled to the world outside of the Academy would shortly be exposed as lacking the skill, knowledge, and motivation required of the average ditch digger. This is not intended as a derisive comment toward ditch diggers, either. They perform a necessary service, while many erstwhile Adjunct Professors of Specious Cultural Malarkey do nothing but temporarily poison the minds of young people, most of whom will go on to productive lives while the academics merely decay amidst their published tomes of forgettable slop.

The cost of a college education goes up the more it is subsidized. Harvard is sufficiently endowed that it doesn't need to charge anything, but since they would miss out on government aid if they didn't, they jack up the price.

Keep that in mind as you negotiate scholarships...

He has a bio on Wikipedia. It says he converted to Islam in 1992. His father is reportedly an Olympic medal-winner (1964 and 1968). He also thinks the 7/7 London bombings and the 3/11 Madrid bombings were not carried out by Muslims but probably by U.S. operatives.

I was shocked to see that the neutrality of the Wikipedia article was being challenged. (Do I need to say /sarcasm?)

I think the general principle with Wikipedia is caveat lector--let the reader beware. In this case, I'm suspicious of the entry because it doesn't say anything at all about his involvement in the Kennedy assassination.
