NEW YORK - A public school is requiring detention for parents who get their kids to school late.
Under the new rule at the Manhattan School for Children, parents who dont drop off their children by 8:25 a.m. have to pick up late slips from the principals office and go to the auditorium to serve 20 minutes of detention with them.

If the little brats never show up on time for school, then who is responsible? The school? The parents? Or the children?
When I call a meeting for 7:45 am, the door is closed at 7:45 am.
I once had one of my project team looking at new cars during one of my seminars. I kicked him off the project.
Accountability
Responsibility
And its being met with such resistance. Somehow, adminstrators are supposed to improve things with wishful thinking. Everybody here bitches about public schools, but when steps are taken to improve them, they just switch to bitching about that. Personally, I think they should just lock the doors at the designated time, and let the parents figure out what to do with their kid for the day.
"Something about teachers. They're addicted to authority, and they think that their job is the most important job in the world."
When my kids were younger and we still had TV, we started watching the Disney Channel. It was teachers' week, and Disney kept showing these announcements honoring "the most important person in your child's life--her teacher."
Since then I've noticed all kinds of propaganda echoing how teachers are more even more important than the parents, how they are heroes to children, etc.
I think it's a result of the "it takes a village" mentality.
How about privatizing the whole thing and letting market forces take care of the problem?
