Did Democrats Page Mark Foley?
Investors ^ | 10/2/2006

Scandal: Right after Mark Foley was revealed to have had inappropriate e-mail conversations with a 16-year-old page, he resigned and checked into rehab. Now, what did Democrats know, and when did they know it?

Yes, you read that right: the Democrats. It's of course clear that Foley, a Republican representative from Florida, resigned for good cause. We don't defend him or his inexcusable behavior — good riddance.

But it didn't take long at all after Foley's resignation for the Democrats to call for an investigation of the entire Republican leadership in the House, charging that GOP stalwarts knew early on that Foley, as they like to say in the rehab business, had a "problem."

Democrats have begun losing their once-significant lead in the polls, and a mere five weeks remain until the midterm elections. Is this scandal the Democrats' own "October Surprise," meant to throw the GOP into a tailspin shortly before the vote?

Recent polls show Democrats aren't doing very well on several key issues. What better way than a good, old-fashioned sex scandal to get people's minds off such things as the importance of winning the war in Iraq, our ongoing vulnerability to terrorist attack and the necessity of keeping the Bush economic boom going?

As it is, Republicans deny knowing about the explicit text messages that Foley sent to a 16-year-old congressional page back in 2003. In repudiating Foley, House Speaker Dennis Hastert called the messages "vile and repulsive."

Despite this, the immediate take by Democrats and much of the mainstream media was that this was a classic example of Republican hypocrisy — talking "morals" and "values" while all the time shielding a child predator. But it was nothing of the kind...

I mentioned on an earlier thread that I had not followed this from the beginning. I get the impression that the Republicans thought the matter had been taken care of. I asked if the Dems knew about this and covered it up long enough to use it as a political campaign issue. Can anyone clue me in?

Perhaps someone will be able to here at FR. I'm just getting the details of all this myself.

What is the big deal? We are talking about Instant Messages. Which were mysteriously kept, and THAT IS ALL. There have been no allegations of Foley doing anything, no bodies mysteriously dieing or disappearing. Not even a dead women in a car in the water.

This is getting more press play than the LEAKS of secret information to the NY Slimes, or the KILLINGS, RAPES, AND CRIME OF ILLEGAL ALIENS.

If anything we should be outraged at the press for pushing matters that are worthless in the long run, and ignoring matters that will get us killed or destroyed as a culture.

I believe this issue is still under scrutiny. It appears that
this story was held back for close to a year. If the knowing
accomplices did this are they to blame for perpetuating
the situatuion?

In this case the MSM/democrat party could be
red faced on this issue. However that applies
to those who would feel any shame.

Tell it to Joseph Farah, Michael Reagan, Boo-hoo Bossie, John Gibson, Washington Times, gullible Social Conservatives, and a disturbingly large number of FReepers. They all seem keen to go along with the Democrats and their march to power. The list of traitors to party and country grows by the hour. Meanwhile, Zawahiri looks at this and laughs. Because of a single pervert, America will give the reigns of power to the party of perversion. Could he ask for anything more? And our own turncoats are helping to make it happen. Shame on them.

Up to date is that the GOP leadership knew about the emails and saw a potential problem. They talked to Foley and thought it was finished. At that time, nothing illegal had happened that the GOP could know about.

Now the ABC News report about Foley's IM's shows up, and there is no indication that anyone else in the GOP knew anything about them. Now the question is, since Foley broke the law, then why wasn't it reported at once by those who did know? And who are they? To sit on something like this for political gain is despicable behavior, and illegal.

I detest how politics overrides everything we know to be moral and decent.

Lets get down to human decency. If Foley is guilty, he should be tarred, feathered, and HUNG OUT TO DRY. This kind of behavior is detestable in anyone, but we expect, as we should, that a person elected BY us to REPRESENT us does his/her job well, AND with morality and dignity. Those attributes seem to be lacking everywhere, but most of all in our politicians.

Appreciate the responses. Just looking for truth, which I consider the mantra of freepers. Truth.

You are correct. All the Repubs had to go on were a few "over-friendly" email that had NO lewd content. They confronted Foley to stop sending the overfriendly photos after the family requested it and Foley stopped.

Repubs thought the issue was over. Until some IMM's came to light a few days ago and were sent to the MSM. GOP leadership had not been aware of these lewd IMM messages; as soon as Hastert became aware of them he called for a criminal investigation of Foley.

Now who sent these IMM message to the media and why now just in time for an "October surprise"? Hastert DID NOT KNOW of these yet the conservatives are calling for his head, just as the lefties planned.

Somebody has known something for at least 3 years that is how old these magically appearing IMs are.

Somebody was either on IM with Foley and saved them, Foley saved them and passed them around, or the kid did. Outside of that it is totally possible that someone had access to Foley's computer without his knowledge and spied on his computer communications. None of these actions fit a profile of the House leadership.

There is no doubt the Dims are using it as a political campaign issue, but they are not upset about the IM's they are attempting to destroy our confidence in the House leadership by diverting the whole sordid mess as something the House leadership covered up.

I have not ready anything yet that identifies how the IM's were captured nor who it was that decided to use them as campaign finance 2006 for retaking the House for liberals.

"Now the question is, since Foley broke the law, then why wasn't it reported at once by those who did know? And who are they? To sit on something like this for political gain is despicable behavior, and illegal."

Agree completely. Do we have any info on who reported? Foley adversary? Republican adversary? The Dems knew...and they knew more than the Republicans knew. That much seems obvious.

Thanks for the info and your opinion. I am inclined to agree. I don't see much wrong-doing on the part of Republicans here.

Have today's kids changed that much?

My peers and I at that age would have been so 'creeped out' at the thought of some guy hitting on us, and this kid is replying?

And we were hardly angels ;^)

Something smells here.

I haven't seen any real Dem names yet, and the MSM doesn't seem to care about that part.

My guess it was somebody too stupid to let Foley sink alone ( which he should have ). The Dem party is full of them so that doesn't narrow it down any.

"Hastert DID NOT KNOW"

That seems to be the truth. If he did know, considering what the Dems have been trying to do for the past few years, it would have made no sense for him to try to effect a coverup that might blow back at this time.

That much seems obvious.

Foley resigned..... Immediately. Would you do that if you were innocent of these charges? Regardless of which party ANY elected person holding office belongs to, don't the voters have a right to expect that person to have SOME moral dignity?

The Dems will have their fun hurling rocks at the entire GOP over this. Let them. They live in glass houses.
