Taxi light will mean 'no alcohol'- Islam forbids carrying liquor, cabdrivers say
Pioneer Press ^ | 10-2-06 | JOSHUA FREED

Cabdriver Muhamed Mursal doesn't wear his Muslim beliefs on his sleeve, but he soon may broadcast them via a light on top of his cab.

Mursal and hundreds of other Muslim cabdrivers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport refuse to take travelers they know are carrying alcohol. No one is searching bags, but a Napa Valley wine box or a see-through bag from the duty-free store can be enough to leave a fare waiting for the next cab. Airport officials estimate that happens at least three times a day.

Now, the airport and cab drivers have worked out a proposal that calls for cabdrivers who won't carry alcohol to have a cab light that's a different color. That way, the airport workers who hook up travelers with taxis can steer alcohol-carrying fares to cabs that will take them. Airport officials hope to have the lights ready by the end of the year.

A non-Moho who refused to allow alcohol in his vehicle would not be a taxi driver very long. Why is this not the case with the Mohos? Christian believers who know that their religion frowns on certain things, avoid placing themselves in situations that conflict. The mohos demand and are getting the society to change to comply with the Mohos' religion. Americans are all becoming dhimmis whether we like it or not.

So...carry a pork salami next time.

If Muslim taxi drivers can't carry alcohol, I would contend that they can't be taxi drivers.

Also, if certain airline passengers take advantage of duty free shops and carry alcohol, them Muslims can't fly in those airplanes.

Would you support a Christian Cabbie who refuses to take a woman to an Abortion Clinic?

Oh, and in a previous thread about this silliness, it was pointed out that the cab drivers are already carrying alcohol - in their gas tanks - because ethanol is grain alcohol

ROTFLMAO! I wouldn't be surprised if some of them do seek out none gasohol stations. If they can be found at all. (Just checked it is, Then there is the new 85% alcohol fuel...

You know the so called Whiskey Rebellion, was by corn farmers who thought it unfair to tax the alcohol they made from the corn they grew, while not taxing the corn grown by others closer to the market areas farther east.

Seems like the corn growers association, along with the beer and wine makers, would have something to say about such regulations... OTOH, they might just keep quite for fear that their offices and factories might be burned to the ground, or blown sky high as appropriate.

I'm not sure how any travelers could have a big bottle of alcohol available to be seen, given the flight restrictions on liquids

Maybe you shipped in your checked baggage, or bought it in the airport?

Simple cure. Yank all their medallions/licenses and award them to someone else who does not discriminate.

Everyone else is expected to not discriminate with regard to customers in their business dealings and so should they.

Another double standard.

Would you support a Christian Cabbie who refuses to take a woman to an Abortion Clinic?

Perhaps a better way to frame the question might be, "would you support the government collaborating with Christian cab drivers so that cabdrivers who won't carry women to abortion clinics will have a cab light that's a different color. That way, the airport workers who hook up travelers with taxis can steer abortion-seeking fares to cabs that will take them. Airport officials hope to have the lights ready by the end of the year."

Around five years ago in Austin a white male "Christian" cab driver shot and killed two passengers who were giving him a hard time.

Ah, but did the government officials in Austin give him a light of a special color that identified him as someone who would shoot and kill passengers who were giving him a hard time?

Wait a minute...maybe I am stepping into false analogies here, but I wonder, how is it possible that a pharmacist can refuse to fill out a prescription for the "morning after" pill and lose his job, but an employee of a taxi dispatch company can refuse service to someone whose product violates his "moral sensibilities" and get away with it?
Is this a double standard, or am I "out bicycling"? Oh, well, being that I am only a dumb red stater, this is far too over my head...could you get someone over at DU to help me?

Prediction : The moslem cab drivers who refrain from getting the lights will be pressured to do so by their so-called "brothers". Threats will be made. Eventually, all the moslem cab drivers will refuse to carry fares with alcohol. And since their first attempt at forcing sharia on us went so well, they'll next refuse to carry "immodestly" dressed females...Females with uncovered hair...People with service dogs...

Is this in New York?

Mursal and hundreds of other Muslim cabdrivers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport refuse to take travelers they know are carrying alcohol.

This is in Minnesota.

Another quibble I have with the pharmacist analogy is this:

Whereas "morning after" pills are a fairly new arrival (thus justifying the fact that pharmacists' objections to dispensing them only became news in the last few years),

in contrast,

neither taxicabs, nor Muslim taxi drivers, nor fares-who-might-be-carrying-alcohol are ANYthing reMOTEly new.

Point: Why are these objections (by cabbies) bubbling up NOW, hm? Is there a sudden upswing in fares who are carrying lots of booze? in the numbers of Muslim cabbies?

I think not.

Rather, I surmise this is a group of nasty, anti-Western (yet Minneapolis-ian ... go figure) American Muslims who've decided they're going to "stick it to" the horrible Crusaders, somehow. I'm sure it's only a small subset, but it still bothers me.

JMO.

The folks should protest this rubbish with the same zeal used to protest pharmacists' refusal to fill prescriptions for emergency contraception. Further, I don't expect we'll see Danny Glover's protesting cabbies' "free-exercise."
