(Vanity) Pool: When does Rove spring his surprise?
Bosco | 10/01/2006 | Bosco

OK, so last week or so there was a thread about Rove having a nice surprise for the Dems this election cycle. Some have said that there may not be an actual surprise and he's just playing with what minds the Dems have left.

What I'm looking for is a post with your guess when Karl Rove will let his surprise out of the bag. Date, time if you want. The winner wins... our undying respect here on FR.

Have fun.

Well, one surprise could be gay marriage.

The California Court of Appeals is supposed to rule by October 15th in California on the legality of same sex marriage. And the New Jersey Supreme Court is supposed to rule by October 26th on the issue in that state.

If either court rules in favor of homosexual marriage, it will stir up that issue again. Eight states are voting on whether to have state constitutional amendments defining marriage on November 7th, so a ruling in favor of gay marriage will only help efforts and voter turnout in those 8 states.

I doubt that the GOP will spring any October surprise.

The MSM wouldn't allow it.

Could be that the Dems have just sprung their surprise with this stuff about Foley and questions on just how long the GOP leadership has known about it. Depending on the legs this story has it might derail whatever Rove had planned.

I wouldn't hazard a guess as to how those cases on marriage will turn out. Several cases earlier this year in other states resulted in those courts indicating that current 1 man and one woman marriage laws were not violating anyone's rights, and that the state legislatures could always change the definition of marriage by passing a law on the subject. I'm not a gambling man so I won't guess what will happen.

I think it's going to be a rolling surprise. One right after another. Just as the dems get their breath back on one, there will be another one right up to the elections.

I would like to make the case for the "opposite". Maybe the information got leaked now as to prevent it from being leaked around election day.

Yes, that fits every definition of an 'October Surprise', and it could have some legs. Nothing short of Hastert shooting the creep on national television (I wish he would) is going to make this go away.

The October suprise will be for the Big Business Cartel
informing them of the new NAFTA super highway they can
use to import more cheap labor and dump their more productive American counterparts who are inconvienently aware of their rights.

The "October surprise" will be delayed until Friday, 11/03/2006, too late for the old media's news cycle.

I disagree, this is perfect timing for the Dems. Foley is bad enough. Now we're in for God knows how much "What did Hastert and Bonier know and when did they know it" for news cycle after news cycle. They can possibly drag this on for weeks. This is not Republican damage control. If the GOP leadership had known about this as long as they appear to then the time for leaking it was last year or to use it to get Foley to quietly 'retire' and not run again.

Very possible :)

I think the surprise may not be necessary a scandal for the democrats, although most probably there is one, but rather it is an excellent event for the US and as we all know what is good for America is bad for the democrats and their media.
