I read up to about post 50 something and couldn't stomach reading any more. Character Counts People. A wise and prudent man/woman would never have placed themselves or office in such jeopardy.

But a pervert is a pervert. I don't care what party Folley was from and some of you apologist need to get over it. I a dirt bag like that e-mailed or IM'd one of mine in that context I'd be hunting someone down to do what Roy D Mercer calls a good old fashioned country.. well you get the point.

I can't believe what I'm reading in here. Oh it's OK congressman so and so party-Dem slept, wrote love letter, whatever with boys, girls, too. You kind make me as sick as that congressman does! You tolerate evil for the sake of political gains. No wonder our nation and the GOP is in the sorry state it is in.

You are totally over the top. Foley did not have gay sex with this teen. Nobody mentioned has AIDs.

I fail to see any connection with pilloring a conservative Republican for HIV.

AIDs/HIV, influenza, cancer, E. coli from spinach---all part of the world. Life has risks.

Doesn't this sound like they were warning the boy pages about Foley being gay, NOT about him being a predator?

As far as I am concerned the claims of the author are true until proved to be false.

I see. So if I write that you like doing it with donkeys, everyone should consider those claims to be true, until you can prove otherwise.

Believe whatever you wish, this [F]oley character is a predator of the worst kind.

I have not, and am not, defending Foley. Based on what is in the instant messages, the leadership was right in insisting that he resign.

Everyone who works in the "lamestream media" is working to perpetuate lies for the purpose of slandering and libeling everyone who is perceived as being "NOT-progressive."

Nice cheap straw man smear. First, totally mischaracterize what I said. Then, knock down what I never said. You must have been asleep in debate.

[Prove] that no one within [Foley's] party had any knowledge of his misdeeds.

Ah, yes. All Republicans are to be presumed guilty until they can prove they did nothing wrong. Spoken like a true Democrat.

Hey everybody. WhiteGuy is really a troll! Since I wrote it, it must be true. It is up to him to prove otherwise!

So if Congressional pages were being warned about Foley back in 2001, why wasn't anything done about it? It's highly inappropriate for a 50-year old man to be trying to contact 16-17 year old pages, come on.....And if they were being "warned" then that doesn't mean he wanted to take them out for ice cream.

That's a very good question.

I don't think that that constitutes molestation. Its creepy and pervy and he should resign in disgrace for it but absencse of any proof of physical contact i'd be hard pressed to call it molestation.

I don't think it's just a warning that he was gay -- if he behaves appropriately at all times, why the warning? You wouldn't warn a female page that a Congressman who has never acted inappropriately toward teenaged girls is a heterosexual, would you?

Maybe I've just been unlucky, but I've worked in some places where young female employees would ask one of the guys to go ask a question or bring papers to certain more senior male suits -- not because they were rapists, or even engaged in overt sexual harassment, but just because it made them uncomfortable. The notion that the same thing might happen in reverse is not at all difficult for me to believe.

As far as I know, the IMs that just came out are the first instance of something that explicit coming to light. The fact that he might have previously been close to, but not over, the line doesn't mean that he should have been sanctioned by the party sooner -- though someone should have, and for all we know did, pull him aside and discreetly tell him to dial it back.

So far as I can tell, the im's and e-mails are all from before the "first" e-mail from 2005 was disclosed. It seems that when they told Foley to stop e-mailing the boy, and watch how he said stuff, he stopped.

I could be wrong, and there might be more information out there that we don't know yet. The IM's were from 2003, and whoever had them could have saved some people a little scary and annoyine e-mail traffic if they had released them then.

I think the problem is that, as disgusting as the IM's and a couple e-mails are, we don't know yet if this crossed beyond having offensive conversations with pages to actually doing anything. And as some have said, it could be that, if these were all 16 years old or older, and the IMs are not from when they actually served as pages, it might be disgusting but not illegal to have sent them.

Foley resigned, and dropped out of the race, because he knew this would kill his career. But it will be some time before we know if he actually committed a crime. Meanwhile, the democrats are accusing the republican leadership of covering up what they know only as a congressman's inappropriately friendly conversations with former pages.

But they and the media are playing it like Foley raped a bunch of underaged boys and the republicans let him get away with it.

"AIDs/HIV, influenza, cancer, E. coli from spinach---all part of the world. Life has risks."

The root cause of AIDS is gay sex, sodomy. Homosexuals have caused the disease by trying to defy nature. This is just scientific fact, not speculation. Therefore, we do not need gays in Congress, nor do we need the pervert Foley, criminals in general, or other menaces to public health and safety.

Kudos sir.

The "party faithful" who say "everyone else is doing it", are making me wonder if the GOP stands for anything.

Isn't it interesting how threatened ABC News got for the 9/11 show? It just shows you that the Dems and Clinton still have a lot of power that ABC is scared of.

I just posted this on another thread...I'll repost it here:

You know...the GOP continues to astound me with how poorly they are at politics.

1) If anyone in the GOP leadership did now that the creep was doing this and hid it...I want them gone. Period. That's what seperates us Republicans from the democrats. We take out our trash...they recycle.

2) Hastert OUGHT to have a joint conference with Pelosi (if she would do it...if she won't have one by himself), saying the following: "I am pledging full cooperation into an investigation into who knew what and when, along with Rep. Pelosi. I am also pledging to you today, and I hope Nancy wil do the same, that if in the course of this investigation it is determined any republican withheld information regarding Rep Foley for political reasons...and did not come forward in a timely manner, I and the GOP leadership will call for their immediate resignation from congress or whatever position they hold in the private sector. I am asking and expecting Rep Pelosi to pledge the same in regards to any democratic representative."

Basically...you want to play hard-ball? we can play hard ball. Batter up.

Added: Maybe they will never do this....even though it would make total sense...because we would lose some people. However, I would rather get some honesty back in politics by losing than by winning at all costs. I think if Hastert knows he did nothing wrong...and the GOP leadership did nothing wrong...then he knows this is a dim dirty set-up and they are the ones who had the info for a while...CALL THEIR BLUFF!

We are so inept...we almost don't deserve to be in power.

I think that the GOP has become a pale shadow of what it once was by adopting the "do anything for a win" strategy.

How often have we been told to shut up and vote for a candidate who has the same issues and problems as the opponent because "the other guy is worse!".

Not really surprised, but saddened.
