If you see a fellow walking down the block on his hands today, you can be pretty sure he's a Democrat. For at least from now till Election Day, Democrats inhabit a topsy-turvy world in which good news is bad and bad news is good - unless the bad news is very bad, which would be bad. Got it?
By now we're all familiar with BDS - Bush Derangement Syndrome. In recent weeks, a new, virulent strain has mutated: GPDS. No, not a virus affecting the positioning gizmo in your car permitting men to achieve nirvana - never again having to ask for directions. We're talking about Gas Price Derangement Syndrome, in which Democrats, depressedly deranged by dropping gasoline prices, blame the good news on a diabolical plot cooked up by Rove and carried out in the covens of Exxon-Mobil and company.
Being the serious paper it is, the Boston Globe decided to propagate that virus today by publishing a column by one Tom Keane, identified as a former Boston City Councillor. His party affiliation wasn't offered, but I'm going out on a limb and guessing he's a Dem.
Entitled Thanks to GOP, I'm pumped for November the column manifests these symptoms of a severe case of GPDS:
* $2.19 at a Hess in Wilmington. $2.12 at Prime Energy in Malden! $2.12!! . . . I'm starting to dread the regular trips to the gas station less and less, and I'm liking the president more and more . . .
* Yeah, I'm being bought off for a few bucks -- actually, about $15 a week.
* Is it just an election year ploy, a cynical manipulation of the market to capture straying voters such as myself and bring them back to the fold? Could be. But it's a good one.
* Gas is nearing two bucks. Maybe these guys really do know what they're doing. Sure, people are dying, bombs are exploding everywhere, and Iraq is on the verge of civil war. On the other hand, we're awash in oil and the price is plummeting.
* Is it worth it? I don't know. I stand at the pump mulling that question, pondering the money spent, the lives lost, and the ideals betrayed. It's a hard case to make. At two dollars, gas is still pretty high. But at $1.50? Perhaps. Perhaps.
Tom, Tom. Take a tank of high-test and call us in the morning if it still hurts.
Boston Globe/NewsBusters GPDS ping to Today show list.
The leftists where I work (in NYC) are all severely depressed. They are definitely expecting the worst. One of them is certain that Rove already has Bin Laden hidden somewhere and will pull him out in October. To the leftists, Rove is some kind of weird cross between Superman and the Devil.
What an incredible disconnect between issues by this guy. Was he crying when he pumped the gas?
Oh, and he forgot to mention (gasp!) Global Warming.
He's actually in the WhiteHouse basement, and they'll pull him out ONLY if they really, really need to. Otherwise, he's in cold storage until 2008.
That's the way Rove works...
In the leftist world-view, the government would set the price of gasoline. So for them, it is normal to think that Bush raises and lowers the price of gas. So they can say that Bush lowered it just before the elections.
See my user name.
Thanks, poobear. In recent weeks there have been enough instances of FReepers blaming the messenger - me - that I've started making these disclaimers whenever there's a danger of confusion!
Brilliant observation - I hadn't thought of that. It really is a form of socialist projection on their part.
LOL!
Funny, when gas was high it was a legitimate political bludgeon over the head of George Bush.
Now prices are down, and "mere gas" (and a good economy) just aren't important enough reasons to re-elect Republicans. It would just be greedy cynicism, what, with all the "evil" we've done in Iraq...
Keane = another Saddam lover
I wish I could say I'm shocked,SHOCKED by the Globe,but I can't.
Socialist fishwrap.
I can't even read the sports page anymore(at least when Dan Shaugnessy appears, sidekick to the @ss-kissing,name dropping moonbat fictional columnist Mike Barnicle.)Yuck!
You're right .. just like a gallon of milk
Most folks don't have a clue of how the government really works and what they do and don't do
It's the welfare mentality
Always remember this, and evaluate each "story" accordingly.
If that were true (and I have no reason to think it isn't), shouldn't the left then be happy? Because as soon as their party gets in power, they could lower it to pre-1970s levels.
But wait, that would mean more people driving, which means more pollutants in the air. So that means they actually want gas prices to be higher, to reduce the amount of people buying gas. But wait. That would mean that the poor man can't afford gas for his car, so that's not good, either. But wait...
Now I'm confused.
Does that make me a lefty?
I take the Prilosec before bedtime to ward off any MSM nightmares ;-)
