LEWISVILLE North Texas motorists can't help but notice that the price of gasoline has plunged below the $2 mark at some area pumps.
Drivers at a RaceTrac station near Interstate 35E in Lewisville early Tuesday morning were surprised but delighted to be pocketing some extra change after a fill-up. The price per gallon is 50 cents less than it was just a month ago.
But is the drop due to the end of the summer driving season, or something else?
According to a new Gallup poll, 42 percent of respondents agreed with the statement that the Bush administration "deliberately manipulated the price of gasoline so that it would decrease before this fall's elections." Fifty-three percent of those surveyed did not believe in this conspiracy theory, while 5 percent said they had no opinion.

And that 42% is just about the exact number of Donkeys in any given survey.
People are so stupid.
42 percent of respondents are idiots.
What an asinine statement. I suppose the respone is supposed to be "We were hoping to sneak it by them, but..."
Must be some Okies drifting South.
Nah, probably some California moonbats off their usual migration paths...
Oil is down 22%, gasoline is down 17%. People would be closer to the mark by whining that gas prices aren't dropping fast enoguh rather than looing for conspiracy theories as to why they're dropping as fast as they are.
Of course it's the Republicans lowering the price. The Dems have done everthing they can for years to keep the price as high as possible.
Correct, and exactly what I've been contemplating.
Theories differ:
-End of peak driving season
-No major hurricanes to reduce supplies
-Slight decrease in demand due to high prices
-Prices lower after issues in the Spring with transition to new fuel standards
-Karl Rove needed to get W's popularity above 40% and consumer confidence above 100 ;)
These 42%, if "they" really exists, are idiots. The price of gasoline is determined by markets, not politicians.
Geez, they whined when prices went up, now they're whining because prices are coming down.
What are they gonna whine about if prices stabilize? Oh, I'm sure the whiners and hand wringers will think of something.
Gawd.
If I were President I would state the following:
"You 42% that think I control gas prices are correct. If you do not STFU and Vote Republican, I'll raise it from $1.79 to $15.00 a gallon."

It couldn't be some MA snowbats could it?

I know we sometimes hate to even have to reply to liberals who retail this BS, but here are couple of useful sound-bite style responses: (1) So Iran and Venezuela suddenly decided to lower their oil revenues by billions of dollars to help their buddy Bush? (2) If bush's buddies in the oil industry can so easily manipulate gas prices, and gas prices affect elections, then why did gas prices increase dramatically during the fall of 2004 when Bush was fighting his own election battle? He can control prices for mid term congressional elections but couldn't control them for his own election?
Follow this with a simple question: of course, you assert that Bush is somehow manipulating prices without a shred of evidence, but in the absence of any, you know, facts or evidence or anything, you should at least be able to explain how such a conspiracy could possibly work. So how could this happen? Black helicopters, the CIA and Karl Rove? Ok, how?
