My only regret with that interview is that Wallace didn`t have the guts to push it further. He should have called him a liar to his face, "Mr. President, you know that is not true"....something to that effect. Ann Coulter or even Bill O`Reilly probably would have done it, which is why the Clintons avoid them like the plague.
no, that would have backfired. Wallace behaved correctly, had he done what you suggest, the story would have been about Wallace - instead, its about Clinton's behavior.
Imagine Hillary reading him the riot act back at the house?! Now I'd pay to see that!! Anyone care to fill in the blanks on that one???
Don't even mention O'Reilly's name. I have seen him on three interviews, starting with Barbara Walters about this and O'Reilly said he thought Clinton was a good president...passing welfare reform, good economy, balanced budget on and on. It just so happens, Clinton did NONE of those things...the Republicans in the House put these things in which stimulated the economy. O'Reilly knows this. Sometime earlier Mr. O asked Dan Rather if he thought Clinton was an honest man, and Rather said he did! O'Reilly said he couldn't believe Rather's answer, so what has happened to O'Reilly and why has he caved?? Is that his idea of balance?? I think he is jealous that Wallace did such a good job and landed the interview of the decade!! I emailed O'Reilly yesterday and said so.
O'reilly was praising clinton last night. I think he was sucking up trying to land an interview. He did the same ass-kissing act for kerry in 04, trying to get kerry on his show. When kerry blew him off, O turned on him to some extent.
..on his show last night, he was defending Clinton.
Actually, the fact that Chris Wallace was (relatively) passive was a plus in this case. Clinton looked flat-out nuts jabbing at, and semi-yelling at, Wallace, who seemed stunned at the emotion Clinton displayed. Clinton's response was so disproportionate to the question posed, and the manner in which it was posed, that he did himself in.
I was thinking the same thing. I would have had some facts for him while he was throwing out his "facts". This lack of preparation on Wallace's part did show that he did not expect Clinton's drama about the question.
So true, but the comment was written on his face. He was also thinking, "This will make me high-profile forever."
Actually .. I thought Chris did a great job. When he saw the reaction, he just shut up and allowed Bubba to make a total A$$ out of himself.
But .. if you listen to the audio - you do hear Chris try to interrupt Bubba and get a word in edgewise .. but Bubba would have no part of it.
