Missing Giuliani
Daily News Record ^ | 9/25/06

The antics of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are a reminder of how wonderful Rudy Giuliani was as mayor of New York.

When PLO chief Yassar Arafat attended a United Nations session, Giuliani ordered police to keep him confined to diplomatic functions. After all, who wants a terrorist roaming the streets of New York?

Chavez and Amadinejab were allowed to roam around, with the latter giving interviews to news organizations. It’s a shame interviewers didn’t ask him why his nation executes gays, and why it executes women who have been raped by older men. A followup question might have been why he imprisons dissidents and shuts down newspapers. A third question might have been, did he think his stated position that Israel should be wiped off the face of the Earth promotes tolerance?

Chavez, of course, embraced Amadinejab, so perhaps he will be instituting sharia law in Venezuela soon. Mr. Chavez should be asked, since he criticized capitalism in favor of socialism, how come the poverty rate in Venezuela is much, much higher than in the United States? Fifty percent of Veneuelans live below the poverty level. Can Mr. Chavez blame George Bush for that?

Mr. Chavez also claimed the United States ran a terrible empire that "oppressed the people of the South." One assumes the U.S. is oppressing Venezuela by buying its oil. A lot of other nations would love to experience such oppression.

One yearns for Giuliani. He would have told police to "keep those guys inside the U.N."

Rudy is a moderate "real" republican with wide appeal.

If Rudy was in office he would have slapped these punks silly.

They prolly would have been scared to say it in the 1st place.

Good thing we won't have to wait to long till he is.

Rangel did well, but Giuliani would have done better. If Bloomberg had anything to say, I didn't hear it.

I'd like to know who was actually responsible for the other Venezuelan guy (#2, I believe, at least of the ones here for the UN junket) getting detained at JFK for an hour and a half (by immigration or customs officials, not sure which). He was pissed. I was amused.

Yep. He appeals to the antigun pro abortion and pro gay marriage set. The Democrats seem to find that a pretty good base.

Rudy Giuliani on Gun Control All gun owners should pass written test I do not think the government should cut off the right to bear arms. My position for many years has been that just as a motorist must have a license, a gun owner should be required to have one as well. Anyone wanting to own a gun should have to pass a written exam that shows that they know how to use a gun, that they’re intelligent enough and responsible enough to handle a gun. Should both handgun and rifle owners be licensed...we’re talking about all dangerous weapons. Source: Boston Globe, p. A4 Mar 21, 2000

"I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, that it should remain that way, it should remain that way inviolate, and everything should be done to make sure that that’s the case,…”

I am a Republican - not a liberal - I admire Giuliani - your statement is not true.

Only liberals yearn for RudyG.

Rudy was the best thing that ever happened to NYC. He will probably be the Republican nominee, I suggest you get over your dismissive attitude.

Bloomberg supposedly said not to dignify them with an answer. Dumb move. He should have torn them apart. But what do you want it's Bloomberg after all.

And remember Rudy telling the Saudi "prince" to screw himself after the "prince" offered a $10 million check then blamed 9/11 on the US?
