As if things weren't crazy enough already in the Middle East, here's the officially sanctioned message in sixth-grade Palestinian textbooks for 11- and 12-year-old kids: "The noble soul has two goals: death and the desire for it."...It's Jonestown, writ large, a cult of suicide for the collective, for Palestine. Israel isn't on the maps in the Palestinian textbooks.
...A recent article in Rolling Stone, "The Unending Torture of Omar Khadr," tells the story of a 15-year-old captured by U.S. troops in Afghanistan ....
"Born into a fundamentalist Muslim family in Toronto," Omar Khadr "had been prepared for jihad since he was a small boy," reports Jeff Tietz. "His parents had raised him to believe that religious martyrdom was the highest achievement he could aspire to...
Before he turned 12, Omar had formal military training in bomb-making, assault-rifle marksmanship...and sniper tactics.
...After [the son] refused, his father, suspecting a weakening of faith, told him, "If you ever betray Islam, I will be the one to kill you."
What the aforementioned young people could use is some major deprogramming. For starters, the suicide-promoting poetry in their curriculum could be replaced with some Ayn Rand, the perfect antidote for self-immolation.
Rand warns against "death-worshipping mystics" who control and humiliate through the use of guilt and fear, preaching that a man's pursuit of happiness here on earth is evidence of depravity and selfishness, that his independent mind is a source of arrogance, his body a source of evil, that his liberty, self-esteem and individuality are desecrations of the commandments for obedience, humility, suffering, renunciation and self-sacrifice.
"There is no way to make a human being accept the role of a sacrificial animal," writes Rand, "except by destroying his self-esteem."
Ralph R. Reiland is professor of economics at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh.

It's because humans are more than animals, more than bundles of appetites, instincts and drives. Human beings want and need to be part of something bigger, serve a greater master.
That drive to transcend the self is a noble thing (no matter what Ayn Rand says): it's divine --- but it turns demonic when it's directed toward, precisely, a false god.
The solution is not to try to turn religious devotees into a self-serving consumer class. The solution is conversion to the Being who fashioned evey element of this grand Creation and pronounced it Good; who created humankind ---complete in every detail --- and pronounced it Very Good.
He said, "I have come that you may have life, and have it more abundantly." He is the One who can turn around the devotees of Death. He is the only one.
That is sick.

My problem is the definition of terms. To a Christian, martyrdom is achieved when you die, by others, for the faith. To a Muslim, martyrdom is achieve by killing yourself and others for your faith. Distinctly different. It seems like another word should be used for Muslim Homicidal-Suicides.
They worship the God of Death. Why is any of the Mohammedean behavior surprising? It all makes sense if you just use that one fact as foundation. Even the actions of the moderates can be explained - Just as many of those who worship the God of Life do not fully understand whom it is they follow, so to do many of the death worshippers do service with lips only. But make no mistake - they do indeed do service....
bookmk ping-a-ling , and THANKS Mrs. Don-o
Nufsed.
Apparently, young Omar should have asked mom and dad that if it is so wonderful to die in such a way, why have they not done so years ago?
One of the problems with the Muslim world is their illiteracy rate .... about forty percent, and the minds of those who are literate are filled with garbage like this. It is a sick culture.
Well, martyr means witness. Turning yourself into a bomb to kill others witnesses to a faith, which (in its new aspects at least, of which this odd conception of martyrdom is one) is exactly as Emperor Manuel II described it "evil and inhuman". Refusing to deny Christ, and imitating His self-emptying in death witnesses to the True Faith. Either way, the martyr witnesses to his faith.
The kids just blow up so soon these days.
I simply can't wrap my mind around that mentality. What's the point of having children if it's only to have them die? I can't see that it has anything to do with pleasing Allah to get their alloted 72 virgins because in that society men can have all the virgins they want here on earth. I certainly can't see how that would benefit the women, yet they're strapping bombs on themselves and their babies. So again, what's the point.
*sniff* They blow up so fast...
Nerg. If I were forced to read Ayn Rand, I'd consider blowing myself up, too.
I can't help but add some irreverent levity. I have to think that most men, if they were going to kill themselves for the reward, might prefer 72 kinda trashy women. They might be more fun and less work than all those virgins.....
Of course, the virgins would be less critical of performance, I suppose.
The Alis planned to use 6-month-old son Zain's baby bottle as a liquid bomb, blowing themselves and their child up, along with hundreds of others aboard the flight. FULL TEXT
Islam is a death cult, not a religion.
I've thought the same.
My nextdoor neighbors' son's name is "Zain." Weird coincidence.
Yeah, but.... Omar Khadr, one of the would-be suicide-murderers referenced in the article, was from Toronto. Others you'll read about from London, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Detroit.
I think some of them are yearning for the Transcendent. Hell is transcendent, too. And we don't offer them Heaven, we offer them Hamburgers.
