Jefferson City -- A judge struck down Missouri's new voter identification law Thursday as an unconstitutional infringement on the right to vote.
The law required voters to show a federal or Missouri-issued photo ID at the polls, which Cole County Circuit Judge Richard Callahan said was an unconstitutional burden on voters because the paperwork required to get those IDs is not free.
Callahan said the requirement is a particular burden to women and the poor. . . .

They can get a free ID in MO.... but here is the catch.....
But to get a free ID, Missourians must comply with a separate state law requiring them to prove their "lawful presence" in the United States. For most people, that means showing a birth certificate. Those who can't find it must get a replacement. Missouri charges $15 for a birth certificate. The lawsuit claims that amounts to an illegal poll tax.

Their opposition to this totally common sense idea is totally transparent.
It is amazing to me too that some states like ours have had this for years and no one says a word of complaint. Not to mention Democrats still dominate here so it's not like a lot of Demo voters are being disenfranchised.
Of course the Dems and the race baiters use this issue to further divide the nation, trying to make it sound as if blacks will be denied the right to vote. As always, I say damn them for their vile tactics. They divide Americans, then have the nerve to say Republicans do that??

Although it's never happened to me, I've witnessed a pretty irate, almost violent, person who showed up to vote and was informed that he already voted (while he was at work over an hour away).
I wonder who is looking out for his constitutional right to vote.

MO law is state (trial court) judge.
Correct, but either way he rules it will swing the process to one side or the other. Appeals will be forthcoming I'd guess.

These Democrats manage to see vote fraud in everything, from police highway checkpoints to the length of polling place lines. But where it really exists, in crooks taking on the I.D. of others to cast votes, well funny they can't perceive any possible voting irregularities that could come out of that, or not providing proper I.D. to prove who you say you are. No, but a police checkpoint or a long line is prima facea evidence of an attempt to commit vote fraud.

I live in Missouri and was issued (free of charge) a voting card years ago. I have NEVER been asked to show it, so it has remained in my wallet all these years, (except when a new one is mailed each time I move, then the new one goes in).

"unconstitutional burden on voters because the paperwork required to get those IDs is not free."
And, not only that, but felons and illegal aliens can't get the required ID cards and plan to vote for Dims.

We need a federal law requiring gov't issued photo id to vote in any federal election to take this out of the states venue... The Constitution leaves voting procedures to the states. Not only would your recommendation be unconstitutional, I think it is bad public policy to grant the federal government more power at the expense of the states.

What stopps them from showing up with their birth certificate? Sometimes it is because the birth certificate says "Mexico."

I don't remember the circumstances but a federal judge recently upheld a voter ID law in another state. At the time, I wondered if it might serve as a precedent.
Maybe someone will recall the article.
