Antiabortion Centers Offer Sonograms to Further Cause (The Nerve!)
Washington Post ^ | 9/9/2006 | Michael Alison Chandler

Posted on 09/09/2006 7:02:38 PM PDT by Pyro7480

On June 6, Cheryl Smith took her last $600 and drove her teenage daughter from Baltimore to Severna Park to get an abortion. When they got there, a receptionist told them the clinic had changed hands. The abortion provider had moved a few miles away, she said, but the new clinic would offer a pregnancy test and sonogram for free.

The Smiths stayed. After they saw a picture of the fetus at 21 weeks with arms and legs and a face, their thoughts of termination were gone....

With its ultrasound machine and its location, the Severna Park Pregnancy Clinic demonstrates two of the most important tactics in an intensifying campaign to woo women away from abortion clinics. Antiabortion organizations in recent years have added medical services to hundreds of Christian-oriented pregnancy counseling centers nationwide. Many of these antiabortion clinics have opened in or near places where women go to end pregnancies....

"They can set up a waiting room and an exam room, but that doesn't mean they employ actual medical practices," said Vicki Saporta, president of the National Abortion Federation, a D.C.-based network of abortion providers....

Abortion rights activists are calling for tighter regulations. They say the antiabortion centers mislead women about the health effects of abortion....

Last year, Allyson Kirk, 24, of Manassas, a student at Northern Virginia Community College, became pregnant.... When Kirk was shown a video depiction of a fetus's head being severed during a surgical abortion, she walked out.

"I was outraged," Kirk said. She recalled saying: "This is horrible. I can't believe you do this to women who are lost and looking for help."

The pro-abortion crowd, of course, see these centers as a threat. But the more they blather, the more the "crisis pregnancy" centers benefit.

The pro-abortion left apparently doesn't believe in giving people the "choice" of a crisis pregnancy center.

The euphemisms must be kept intact, the procedures must remain clouded in medical jargon. Women must continue to think that abortion is a medical, rather than cultural, act.

21 weeks! That's 5 months! That baby could have survived if born prematurely. I thought abortion was illegal at that stage.

Abortion rights advocates say the proliferation of antiabortion pregnancy clinics is a dangerous trend, confusing vulnerable women by mixing a seemingly neutral clinical environment with a religious agenda.

"They can set up a waiting room and an exam room, but that doesn't mean they employ actual medical practices," said Vicki Saporta, president of the National Abortion Federation, a D.C.-based network of abortion providers.

Oh? Using a sonogram machine to show the woman what she's about to abort is *religious*? News to me. It sounds pretty scientific to me; just the facts.

Nope. Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton has made abortion legal for all nine months. The partial-birth abortion ban is being challenged, and that's not the only way to kill babies in the third trimester.

If I am not mistaken abortion is legal up to the time of birth....but many abortion clinics have a set guideline as to their own particular cut off date....some at 12 weeks others at 20. It all depends on their discretion.

I think it's great! I pray that they continue to benefit and thrive. I'm glad there are centers like these to give people information that the Planned Parenthood types would never let them see.

National Abortion Federation: "Shhhhhhh! There's no baby in there!! "It's just a spot of blood". How dare we take a look.

Here are some of the "logic" displayed on that page.

Tricking women and young girls into having babies is dishonest, and will ultimately lead to depression in young women who have been given false information

I find it quite alarming that these faith-based centers would use deception as a tactic.

What is the social policy of the antiabortion group about that child? What is their agenda on poverty, domestic violence, bab education system, environmental issue that will affect that child and the family. This conservative need to address this core issues.

The only thing that bothers me about this deception is that after the baby is born, these people dont do one damn thing to help support, feed, clothe and educate the mothers who really need the post partum assistance. By their legislative indifference, they make it even more difficult for the mother to raise the child. Especially for minority parents, these are the same people that excoriate the mothers when they encounter these single parent children when they have to pass judgment on the children in the judicial system. Hypocrites!

Its a shame that evangelical and religious organizations arent more concerned with the welfare of the living. They support the murder of people all over the world that dont agree with their dogma but will go to any lengths to save a fetus.

They can take the baby up to the day of delivery, induce a breech birth (dangerous for the mother), hold the baby's head inside the birth canal, pierce it's skull and suck out it's brain while the baby bucks and struggles against the mother.

Perfectly legal, every woman's right, paid for with your tax dollars and a God given right enshrined in the American Constitution.

This is a perfect approach. I've thought for a long time the mere requirement that women be provided a sonogram before an abortion would help her see the reality of what she would be doing by terminating a life. I can not understand why anyone would be opposed to someone making a decision with all the information available to them. It reveals that the left isn't willing to allow a woman to see her options, they want to make certain she aborts at all cost. It isn't about choice and has never been about helping women in crisis, it is about driving a wedge between motherhood and being a woman. They have an agenda that has only hurt the integrity of the American family and culture. Now both parents work and what have we gotten for that? Chronic debt and living beyond our means and Men who have no pride in being able to take care of their families and women who put their careers before their families and seek more to belittle their men than to love and be proud of them. The liberals can keep their empty version of their heartless utopian planned world.

I don't think I'm ever going to see another sonogram story without remembering the Carl's Jr. ad for the Crispy Jalapeño Six Dollar Burger:

"Man, it is really hot in here...Mom! [fweet!] Yo, Mom! You're not wolfin' down jalapeños again, are ya?. Yeah, 'cause let me tell you about my friend, Ned. His momma ate nothin' but spicy foods?...Homeboy came out red, Ma. Bright red. So if you keep crammin' those peppers down your neck, I might just bust out of here early...grab something on the way out, take it with me."

$600 per abortion,854,122 legal induced abortions(in 2002),that's quite a little money maker planned parenthood has going.

I was reading the link. It seems like that they are helping women after the baby is born. Are abortion pros doing the same?

I read some where that that is just part of their revenue and that they receive "fees" for fetuses. I don't know. Maybe others do.

I thought abortion was illegal at that stage.

It is in nearly all of Europe. Thanks to Roe v. Wade, the US has the most liberal abortion laws in the entire world.

Unreal. *legislative indifference*? I thought the *religious right* was criticised for bringing their religious views too much into politics, and now they're criticised for not enough. They're the hypocrites.
