FWIW... i think it's about what interests children from birth more than how smart they are.
i still think it boils down to boys love and want to learn all forms of mechanics etc from a very early age and carry it on into college/life, where women have to take classes (on what we grew up on) in highschool and college to earn their degrees but lack all the practical knowledge/skinned knuckles/lessons learned the hard way we learned early in life... while they were learning to be girls/women, and i think it's a gap that can seldom if ever be made up for.
