You can translate those expressions both ways.

And Kaczynski definitely meant the "relish" thing (LOL!)

Just like you didn't know, that in Polish "spieprzac" (zapieprzac, wypieprzac, podpieprzac) is a bit softer, less vulgar version of "spierd...c" (zapierd...c, wypierd...c, podpierd...c, wypierd...c).

Just like "to piss off" and "to f..k off" in English.

Geeez! Why am I discussing such obvious things??????

You're welcome!

Any time. :-)))

And remember, when you're in Poland, and some police officer will not be very nice to you - just tell him "spierzaj dziadu!" (spyep-shy dzyadoo) and he'll be very, very pleased. :-)))

Kidding, of course

Noo, that was the good part of this whole mess :). Always great to know a few more swearwords. So far the only polish words I knew were niemcy and kochanie *LOL.

But none of those 2 is a swearword. No matter what vox_PL says about it. :-)))

What it comes down to is this in my opinion: Germany and in particular Koehler have stated numerous times that a) Germany is to blame for ww2 b) German committed TERRIBLE crimes c) all the borders are and WILL stay intact the way they are forever d) Germany accepts the collective guilt.

The only point of contention that we have is this: Germans believe they have the right to create a memorial for all the "GERMAN" victims (the expelled) which were ALSO victims of the Nazi Regime since they started all of this. I do not see anything wrong with remembering the German victims of ww2. Because believe it or not - not all German are or were evil.

My own family lost everything through the war and left Silesia (Beuthen/OS) and Breslau. The survivors suffered and rebuild their lives in West Germany (Mom for instance grew up as an orphan being barely a toddler).

To simply remember their suffering as well as that of all the other victims of WW2 on GERMAN soil at a memorial at which it will be CLEARLY stated that GERMANY is to blame for the war is in my opinion acceptable.

---

I really don't want to get into the Steinbach mess but to give you a similar translation of what she said: If the Polish people would want to build a memorial for their people and the Germans would want to have a say in it - they would rightfully say "Go fly a kite!"...

"Zentrum against Polish war crimes in Iraq".

Grzegorz, you have great ideas. Maybe with me as the chairman??! As long as I get a minimum salary of 12.000 Euros/month I would not say no. Naturally I prefer to work somewhere in civilized Poland. If the "Zentrum" is going to be located in Bagdad I need a extra 12.000 Euros/month as "Buschzulage" (German: "outback bonus" - we used the word for a extra payment for west Germans that worked in eastern Germany) and a battalion of bodyguards.

We have an old bonmot from the medieval (I believe it is from Walther von der Vogelweide?) in Germany: "Wes Brot ich freß, des Lied ich sing". (I sing the song of those who own the bread I am eating). Money can help to bridge ideological gaps.

P.S.

For the salary I suggested I would also work as a political advisor of the Kaczynski brothers for German and European affairs. They will do much better if they are going to listen closely. That much is sure.
