Briton 'shot dead' in Amman

A gunman has killed a British man and injured five western tourists and a local guide, at a Roman amphitheatre in Amman, according to the Jordanian government.

Reuters is reporting that the gunman chanted as he fired at the tourists visiting the popular site, which is in the centre of the Jordanian capital.

Nasser Joudeh, from the Jordanian government, said the wounded were three Britons, one Dutch, one New Zealander and the Jordanian guide

Jordanian police have cordoned off the site.

"I was walking when I saw someone pull out a pistol from his pocket and start shouting Allahu Akbar (God is Greatest) and fire repeatedly," Mohammad Jawad Ali, an Iraqi who witnessed the shooting told the news agency.

"Then I saw one tourist who appeared to be dead and three who were injured. They were in a group of seven. A woman told me they were tourists from New Zealand and England."

The gunman isn't going to like life in a Jordanian jail. However his life probably won't be very long anyway.

All Western Tourism to the Middle East should halt (with the exception of Israel.

All immigration, education visas and tourism from the Middle East should be stopped.

Maybe then the leadership in these countries would get serious about putting an end to this nonsense.

I would love to see the Roman remains in Asia Minor, some of which are supposed to be spectacular, but I cannot imagine actually GOING to syria or jordan (or egypt for that matter) in the present enviroment.

They sure won't say terrorist and they couldn't quite bring themselves to say insurgent in this case. Freedom fighter wouldn't do either so all they are left with is "gunman".

Chances are that Jordan will do far more than that. If he has info on terrorists, they'll get it if they have to cut it out of him and there will probably be a speedy execution.
