Using Flight Aware to track a 747 (my favorite jet) cargo flight out of Chas. SC. Destination is England, but south of Rhode Island it looks like it made a big loop over the ocean, and according to its last position, it appear to be headed to an old abandoned Military Airfield (Floyd Bennet) on Long Island. Another aviation enthusiasts have an ideas why it would do this?

Must have been out of Charleston AFB. My guess is it's Evergreen or Atlas. Any idea from your link who it belongs to?

It's Atlas Air. According to last coordinates listed on Flight Aware, and a check of Google Earth, it was at 900 feet altitude just east of the old military field.

Maybe they discovered someone had smuggled a bottle of water on board.

Why FBNAS? JFK is right there. I saw my last active B 17 fly out of there (FBNAS Brooklyn)in 1957.

Since it's a cargo flight that probably originated at Chas AFB there may be excellent reasons for not landing at a civilian airport.

It may well be JFK. I just noticed so close to FBNAS on google at such a low altitude. My curiosity is with why the diversion.

That's right about where the remnants of tropical storm Ernesto would be, but it's not much of a storm right now.
