'Death penalty' for serving soldiers killing in an enemy country and in the fog of war. What did that US general say at the Battle of the Bulge..Nuts.. Its much better said in the British vernacular.....Complete and Total Bollocks.

"PHOENIX - An Army investigator has recommended the death penalty for four soldiers accused of murder during a raid in Iraq. Lt. Col. James P. Daniel Jr. made the recommendation in report obtained Saturday by The Associated Press. Daniel found several aggravating factors that warrant a sentence of death in the case of four soldiers accused of killing three men during the May raid in the Salahuddin province."

Pretty dumb reporter....either can't spell allegedly or can't properly use it in a sentence...

I'd hate like hell to see some modern day replay of "Breaker Morant" happen to any of our guys

My favorite movie of all time.

Geeze, maybe we should open up some Viet Nam atrocity crimes and bring Kerry among others to trial? We are actually threatening to execute our troops for killing suspected terrorists in a war? Your post is insane. And yes, I was a proud naval officer.

He may have some serious issues, but my guess is that he would defend our soldiers in this case. He is not my favorite guy, but everyone has good and bad qualities. I believe him to be very loyal to the troops.

Why isn't this in the breaking news? I'm sick to my stomache...just came home from some Saturday errands and the story was there on my screen by the Associated Press. I checked breaking news and didn't see it so I searched for the exact title, Army Recommends Death for GIs. This is absolutely sickening......why the hell do these good men bother to protect our country? I don't really mean that it's just so insane!!!!!

What were the 'several aggravating factors'?

The "several victims" were all "insurgents."

I don't think this is the case you are thinking of. As I understand it this case is about soldiers who say they were told to kill men of military age and they came across men using women and children as shields- they basically seperated the men from the women and kids and killed the men.

I think the case you are thinking about is the soldiers that were supposed to be on a checkpoint and are accused of leaving the checkpoint to rape a young girl- then they are accused of killing the girl and her family to cover it up.

Lt. Col. Daniel concluded that the slayings were premeditated... This is war, and the enemy are civilians. As far as I can see, you could only conclude that this was premeditated on the basis that the soldiers were following orders. Where does that take this case?

Certainly if I were part of the same unit as these men, I'd see it as an opportunity to erase the shame they had brought on their comrades.

You're recommending an honor killing? Where have I heard that before?

No, I'm someone else. Don't know Mr. K.

I think I may be confusing two separate incidents. The one that really incensed me was the alleged rape and murder of the 14 year old girl but the topic of the thread seems to be something else.

And would every one getting hot under the collar please go back and read what I said about *IF* they are guilty. I am not in favor of a kangaroo court. *IF* **IF** ***IF*** they are found guilty, they deserve death.

Of course they are presumed innocent now, but *IF* they are found guilty, then you would have to be a jingoistic moron indeed to think they should escape the harshest punishment simply because they wear our uniform.
