PHOENIX - An Army investigator has recommended the death penalty for four soldiers accused of murder during a raid in Iraq.

Lt. Col. James P. Daniel Jr. made the recommendation in report obtained Saturday by The Associated Press.

Daniel found several aggravating factors that warrant a sentence of death in the case of four soldiers accused of killing three men during the May raid in the Salahuddin province.

If what they did was *truly* murder and not just something that happens in the fog of war, then the death penalty is appropriate,IMO.

But the prosecution would have to present *very* convincing evidence to me before I'd convict them of *murder*.

I'd hate like hell to see some modern day replay of "Breaker Morant" happen to any of our guys.

The story says "an army investigator." One investigator is not representative what the Army command will decide. Can anyone say - Paul Hackett! What a nut he is and he is a lawyer that was in the Army!

Daniel found several aggravating factors that warrant a sentence of death

What were the 'several aggravating factors'?

Charging a man with murder in this place was like handing out speeding tickets at the Indy 500.

Were gonna train you and give you the best weapons known to man. Were gonna test your courage and skills we have trained you with and we are going to put you in harms way. You are gonna do America PROUD by defeating the enemies on their own turf and we will support you every step of the way soldier! And god forbid if you make a mistake and kill one innocent person in this war, we will have to try you as a murderer and you may face the death penalty.

I haven't followed the case, but this recommendation reeks of playing to the arab street.

If they are guilty of what was originally charged, then execute away.

Officers from their unit initially cleared the soldiers of wrongdoing. Charges were filed when witnesses changed their testimony after repeated interviews with Army investigators, Bergrin said.

I'll readily admit to not being the sharpest knife in the drawer, nor the brightest bulb on the tree .. but ... what possible use is this cluster of words out of AP and into yahoo?

This is an opinion of one army investigator. That means squat because there are many above him whom will decide what the offense may be.

There are liberals all throughout our military branches in power and some are nuts. Look at Paul Hackett that was in the army, served in Iraq and is a LAWYER, and he is extremely unhinged.

"Blue cards" for troops that are stressed out during basic, homos in the barracks, females in combat positions getting raped as POWs, navy ships with half of the women on board pregnant....

Oh, if you DO go ahead and do your job?

WE'RE GOING TO KILL YOU.

For God's sake, DON'T SERVE in the "new" military!
