A sergeant who examined the scene hours after Marines killed two dozen Iraqis in Haditha last year said the shootings appeared to be an appropriate response to a coordinated insurgent attack, according to a sworn statement obtained by The Washington Post.
Sgt. J.M. Laughner, part of a Marine human-intelligence exploitation team that was hunting down insurgent bombmakers, went from house to house in Haditha on Nov. 19, 2005, and acknowledged finding two dozen bodies, including some of women and small children.
But Laughner said the scenes of the slayings appeared to match the version of events the Marine squad provided that day and did not seem especially out of the ordinary, according to a transcript of Laughner's interview with military investigators in March.

In a rational world with rational people the sworn testimony of a U.S. Marine within hours of the events would be sufficient. To the NY Slimes this will be evidence of how early the coverup began.

this is going to turn out to be some REMF responding to pressure from the brass at the Pentagon in order to prove to the Army that the Marines aren't a bunch of "knuckle-dragging" killers.
The asshats that put these men in f'ing solitary confinement need to go check the tail rotor of a chopper.
These guys were outside the wire, facing the enemy and have to actually kill or be killed.... and then you've got these air-conditioned, political bureaucrats dressed in JAG costumes trying to screw them over.

How about loading up your gear and go for a nice little house to house assault on a quick response team.... then watching your friends get turned into chunks of meat while you see faces in the windows that could have prevented it....or are using phones that may have set off the charge.
What if those innocent people where used as shields as your men are taking RPGs or automatic weapon fire from the house....
the islamo-pukes like to use civilians as shields just for this bs reason.... the islamo-pukes that get killed are just Innocent men/ the women and children are "murdered" and the Marines get the f'ing shaft by their own.

If you ask me, without reliable eyewitnesses, the Marines get the benefit of the doubt.

Murtha should be tried for Treason and then hung. Of course these Marines are innocent and the terrorists were lying. Anyone w/half a brain can figure that out.

Exactly...As soon as the stuff started hitting the fan after his hack piece on the Marines, he suddenly was transferred and he hasn't written any follow up pieces that I know of. Time even had to retract some things reported in his article. He's a slime journalist and action should be taken against him.
