Richardson businesswoman has ticket to space

MOSCOW — Russia's space agency announced Tuesday that Dallas-area businesswoman Anousheh Ansari will fly to the International Space Station next month.

Russian news agencies say she'll be the first woman to make a paid voyage to the station.

Ansari, a native of Iran, is a co-founder of Richardson-based company Telecom Technologies.

Here in NorTex, Ms. Ansari is well-known as a businesswoman and philanthropist. She endowed the X Prize Foundation, too, if I'm not mistaken.

Congratulations to her!

Yup! One would have to be crazy to spend millions of dollars to go up in some rickey russian ship. I wish her luck but this is dangerous.

Actually the Russian Soyuz is statistically safer than the U.S. Space Shuttle by a wide margin. The Russians haven't lost any cosmonauts in spaceflight since the early 1970s. We on the other hand are down 14 astronauts in that same period.

And last I checked you have to be a corrupt Senator, Congressman, Saudi Prince or a not-so lucky teacher to get a ride on the shuttle.

I believe their record in the last 20 years is better than ours. Besides ... life is dangerous

I wish her safe passage. I am surprised to see it's been 30 years with no casualties. Dare I say (lump in throat) their program is superior to ours.
