ROME (Reuters) - Italy, which is expected to lead a U.N. peacekeeping force in Lebanon, will be unable to send troops if Israel "keeps shooting", Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema said on Tuesday.
"From Israel, we expect a renewed effort, this time truly binding, to respect the ceasefire," D'Alema said. "It's fair to expect that Hizbollah put down their weapons, but we cannot send our troops to Lebanon if the (Israeli) army keeps shooting."

Israel keeps on shooting????
And what of the folks with thousands of rockets left north of the no-fire zone? LOL, these pussies sure have their priorities straight.
Israel scares the crap out of them and Hezbollah doesn't even show up on their radar.

Better that the Italians stay home rather than make the pathetic enemies that they were in the last war they fought in.
The founding fathers of the Roman Empire could be wrapped in wire and used to generate electricty for the world as the rate they are spinning.

Is anyone surprised? The only time the U.N. goes in anywhere is where it is safe and they can lounge in their spas and chase children.

I'm thinking Churchill might have had a point.
IIRC, he wasn't sure if it was better to have Italy as a friend or if they would better serve the Allied cause as German allies.

Italy deserves credit for agreeing to lead the forces after France cut-and-ran. Italy has been a good ally in Iraq.

I wouldn't equate Italy with France. Italy has grown balls since WWII.
I can not help but think of the italian soldier that told his Al Quada executioner to f#$^ himself and said, 'now you will see how an Italian dies!' before they cut his head off.

Italy has been a good ally in Iraq. That is, before they had the recent election and put a leftist as a new Prime Minister.
