Islamic academic: 'dying for your beliefs is just' (Things are not looking good for England)

A British-based Muslim radical appeared to back suicide bombing yesterday when he claimed that dying for your beliefs was 'just'.

Dr Azzam Tamimi told an 8,000-strong crowd that standing up for your principles was the 'greatest act of martyrdom'. The 51-year-old was speaking at the ExpoIslamia convention in Manchester.

The Palestinian-born academic - who previously boasted he would carry out a suicide bombing in Israel - also repeated his public backing for Hamas, which remains banned in the UK.

He said: "The greatest act of martyrdom is standing up for what is true and just. Martyrs are those who stand up and stand up in defiance of George Bush and Tony Blair. You stand up to them and you say desist. Stop this injustice. Stop this oppression."

Dr Tamimi claimed the war on terrorism was a war on Islam. "We are Muslims in Europe, not European Muslims," he added. (continued below)

"Being fair and just means finding the middle path. The middle path is not rubbing shoulders with Tony Blair and George Bush."

The crowd erupted with cheering and applause when he said that Israel had been defeated by Hezbollah. He continued: "Hamas is making sacrifices for you. We tell this government Hamas is not a terrorist group. It is elected by the people of Palestine. We are not terrorists. We are defenders of the truth. Fighting those who invade Muslims is a just cause.

"The government is trying to turn the war on terror into the war on Islam."

In November 2004, Dr Tamimi told the BBC that he was prepared to be a suicide bomber if the opportunity arose. In an interview which was roundly condemned, he said that 2sacrificing myself for Palestine was a noble cause. It is the straight way to pleasing my God and I would do it if I had the opportunity".

Dr Tamimi, a prominent member of the Stop The War coalition, is married with three children and lives in Willesden, North West London. After coming to Britain from the Middle East more than 30 years ago, he and his family have become British citizens and live in a council block.

He has repeatedly spoken out in support of Hamas and described their suicide bomb tactics as 'the courage of man'.

In July 2004, he invited the radical Sheikh Yusuf Al Qaradawi to the UK. Al Qaradawi, who spoke at a taxpayer subsidised conference in London - has called for a war on Jews and the execution of homosexuals.

Waiting for charges. Waiting. Waiting.

This trash would not have been tolerated for Germany neo-Nazis.

I'm ok with that - it's the part where you guys want to take a lot of un-believers with you that I find objectionable.

Reminds me of Picketts charge and the Kamakazi's. Except Picketts charge was not suicide bombers.

To be a martyr, someone ELSE has to kill you. It doesn't count when you kill yourself.

>>This trash would not have been tolerated for Germany neo-Nazis.<<

Someone once said that Gahndi chose his enemies wisely. If he had pulled that civil disobedience stunt with Nazis, nobody today would have ever heard his name.

Looks like the Muslims in Londonistan are doing the same...

So why isn't this Islamic academic practicing what he preaches, the 'greatest act of martyrdom'? Are these suicide bomber too stupid to ask that question of themselves before they decide to become a homicide bomber? I guess I know the answer. See tagline......

The phrase "suicide bomber" is wrongly focused. "Homicide bomber" recognizes that the killing of others is the disgusting and cowardly result.

This article pretends these radicals being called to die for their beliefs represents some kind of selfless, or noble call. But they are being rallied to kill for their decrepid beliefs.

"ExpoIslamia?" Oh, at first reading I thought it said "ExploIslamia." (Just a semantic slip I guess.)

He is an enemy of the State and should be arrested and deported immediately. Dr. Tamini is like another other radical mullah that speak openly about what his real intentions are. The Brits should arrest that looney elected official that gives aid and comfort to the muslim loonies.

I disagree. The peculiarity of the post-Qutb re-conception of Islamic martyrdom is the suicide.

Except for ETA-style bombers who call in a warning to get people out of the bomb-target, all bombers are intent on homicide.

Stressing the suicide aspect has the virtue that real classical Muslims, who have not imbibed the dose of existentialism with which Qutb laced his Koranic commentaries, should be revolted by the practice as much as Christians, Jews and secularists are: the Koran does have a prohibition on suicide, with rather graphic descriptions of the torments suicides face in Mohammed's conception of hell.

It is only after Sayyed Qutb's commentaries which owe as much to Sartre as to Mohammed that suicide bombing became regarded as a form of martyrdom among the Mohammedans.

Islamic academic: 'dying for your beliefs is just'

Dear Islamo-Facists,

Please take this advise to heart - YOUR heart. Die for your beliefs to your heart's content . . . . . . just leave the rest of us out of your journey.

The funny thing about dying for your beliefs is, it's a lot like Stephen King's line from his short story "The Body" (which was made into the movie "Stand By Me", but I digress...): "Go out alone and you're a hero. Take somebody with you and you're dogp**s." I say that unless the somebody (ies) you're taking with you are genuinely bad people, you're definitely a foaming golden pitcher.
