Dozens of Taliban killed in clashes

SEVENTY-one Taliban rebels have been confirmed killed in a major clash in southern Afghanistan, a district governor said today.
"We have 35 Taliban bodies in Panjwayi town and 11 out of the town," district governor Niaz Mohammad Sarhadi said to AFP after the clash that erupted when scores of Taliban attacked the area in Kandahar province around midnight.
Another 25 bodies were found in nearby Sperwan village, he said.
