If ever government whistle-blowers needed protection from official retaliation it is now, in the secrecy-obsessed Bush administration. Federal employees daring to disclose fraud and abuse in their bureaucracies have been under virtual siege, isolated as pariahs and shipped off under gag orders to lesser jobs in far-off places. Appeals to court review under the 17-year-old Whistle-Blower Protection Act have proved fruitless, with the Supreme Court ruling in May that workers have no right to First Amendment protection when they warn lawmakers and taxpayers of government waste and folly. The ruling has thrown the issue back into the lap of Congress. Fortunately, there is enough anger emerging on both sides of the aisle to raise hopes for remedial legislation.

Gary Aldrich ....... call your office.
Ron Brown.......... you weren't going down alone, eh?
Somebody should have blown the whistle on Jamie Gorelick........ the worst government functionary.
There is NO, NO, NO excuse for National Security secrets being leaked to the Junk Media such as the NY Slimes. This is another example of the Junk Media knowingly LYING about things by claiming Whistle Blower status for these traitors.
Take the Times staff out and hang them!
Funny how they don't mention leaking classified information.
Methinks their concerned is quite two-faced here - as it usually is.
Yes! I would guess by the article that the NYTimes is starting to get worried about their two treasonous reporters (Licthblau and RIsen?). Given the latest ruling that Miller and the other guy have to turn over their phone records in yet another leak case, and the recent decision about the reporters who leaked secret info from the GJ in the steroid case, the Slimes is running scared. Their stupid excuses about the super duper secret Bush administration are sounding more and more shill. Publishing US Secrets on the front pages of the NYTimes in a time or war (or anytime for that matter) is openly giving aid and comfort to the enemy. The leakers and the publishers should be in jail...or hung! :-)
If you do, put them on solid earth and raise the rope very slowly.
"... the publishers should be in jail...or hung! :-)"
or both!
"The Old Gray Whore"....good name for this rag. Pinch and Keller have shown their true colors with their decisions on publishing classified info on the front page and elsewhere. They disgust me.
can the NYT be any more pathetic?
This is apples and oranges to the leaking of classified information issue, but they're hoping people don't know the difference.
Whistleblowing within the government is one thing; running to the newspapers is another. Nice try, though.
"Save the Endangered Whistle-blower dangerous, cowardly, foolish TREASONOUS, TRAITORS"
There, Fixed it for ya.
"If there is another terrorist attack here, the NYT staff will begging for protection when the American people start burning their rag and hanging them in effigy on the streets."
Once the media grows tired of the prayer routine of kneeling down on rugs to face Mecca 5 times a day and start loosing their heads over resisting it, will they see the harm in what they pursue.
