Judge allows Ten Commandments monument
By JEFF LATZKE, Associated Press Writer 10 minutes ago
A federal judge on Friday said a Ten Commandments monument outside a courthouse can stay, rejecting arguments that it promotes Christianity at the expense of other religions.
U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White in Muskogee ruled that Haskell County did not violate the Constitution by erecting the monument. The county did not "overstep the constitutional line demarcating government neutrality toward religion," he wrote.
The county argued that the monument outside the Stigler courthouse was part of a historical display that included other monuments recognizing war veterans, the Choctaw Tribe and others. The Ten Commandments monument has the Mayflower Compact etched on the other side.
"A significant factor is that someone comes and looks at all the monuments on the lawn, they can't just single out the Ten Commandments monument and say, `Ah ha!' and that means government is impermissibly endorsing religion," said Kevin Theriot, an attorney for the Haskell County commissioners.
Micheal Salem, an attorney representing the American Civil Liberties Union and Stigler resident James W. Green, said he thought "the court's decision really represents a loss for religious freedom."

OMG! Heaven Forbid... and I heard someone say "Jesus" on the radio yesterday too...
what will become of us?....;)
Allowing a 10 C monument is a loss of religious freedom. These flakes are straight out of "1984".
The ACLU tried there worst Here in Texas, trying to have OUR "10 commandments" monument removed from the grounds around our Capitol. It didn't fly with the U.S. Supreme Court.
Texas (& America) :2 ........ ACLU :0
ACLU should change it's initials to GuACLU= Godless un-American Civil Libertines
Hey ACLU....dare to fight the Lord God? You going down satan lovers......
Didn't this judge get the memo? bwahahahahaha! well we win one once in a while!
Um, wouldn't it be endorsing Judaism if it was endorsing anything?
shhhhhh..........
there you go thinking again
I saw the headline and popped in to see which troll was pulling one over on us, or maybe some other jokster. I'm shocked, happily shocked, but shocked nonetheless.
Separation of Church from Monuments!
Fight the Ten Commandments!
I'm so tired of the US Govt trying to shove the Mayflower Compact down my throat. Get the ACLU on it now!!!
ACLU wants to separate history from the law...that's the premise. First get rid of history, then get rid of the constitution they "proclaim" to protect.
And the trick is to do all this before you reach Hell.
It really shows the difference WHOM appoints a judge.. more reason to keep the democrats out of power.. if we do, then soon most of the Carter/Clinton activist judges will be gone.
The ACLU thinks that if they erase all reference to or of GOD, that GOD will just disappear! Boy, are they in for a surprise!
And why, pray tell, can your clients not do today that they could yesterday?
