On Saturday evening August 12, 2006 The Gore Family Dinner was held at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel in Nashville with John Murtha as the primary speaker. The gathering of Gorons was Freeped by three stalwarts who took position across the street from the main entry. These Freepers were Girl angler and husband and Bert. The Freep line was short but seemed proportional to the attendees. The paper said hundreds attended but that seemed considerably inflated.
Previous to the event Girlangler had conversations with the Nashville Police to assure we were legal. Within seconds after arriving at the appointed corner two Vanderbilt Campus police officers arrived and told us that we should stay off the campus and avoid standing in front of any Vanderbilt signs. We of course agreed and a copy of the DC Chapter rules was produced and provided to the lead officer. The officers immediately took on a very pleasant demeanor and told us exactly where we should go on their side of the street, adjacent to a drive in entry to the campus and directly across the street from the hotel drive entry.
As we crossed the street to the Vanderbilt campus side and the recommenced spot we passed a lady in a long red flowered dress. She commented loudly that if we had as different president we wouldnt have the war. Her husband turned his face away.
The dinner at 7:00 was preceded by a cocktail gathering at 5:30. It cost a lot more and people sort of dribbled in from 5:30 on. We had a good vantage and could be seen by traffic in both directions. I actually became concerned about those turning left because a few watching us almost struck the car in front of them. One couple parked in the Vandy Dorm lot and to their surprise and consternation had to pass very close by as they attempted to cross the heavily traveled street in the middle of the block. The man was flabbergasted at the sight of people opposing such a noble gathering. He had to wait on the traffic and turned toward us jabbering while inching into the street. I asked him to be careful and his wife actually held out her arm to prevent his movement. I feared that in his agitated condition he would be hit by a passing car.
Although we were few, we made our point. Throughout the evening there was a fairly steady stream of people who came out of the hotel to look at us. They would have a few words with the two officers directing traffic into the hotel and cast glances across the street. There were two bald headed guys who on departure and with no provocation gave us the finger. There was one blue suited guy who took pictures. We thought he might have been a Murtha sta ffer because he lingered for some time. . We have his photo. There was also a lazy pressie, she took lots and lots of pictures but chose not to cross the street.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the Freep was the interaction with the police officers. Girlangler stirred the nest by calling for permission. That was of course precisely the correct procedure. However that meant that some reaction was required just to be sure. There was progay marriage demonstration down the street and I suppose some fear of interaction. The Vandy police had obviously been given a heads up because they were instantly on the scene. There was a Toyota with two occupants that pulled up and watched us for quite a while before leaving. They were probably police and determined we were boring and harmless.
The two officers across the street were having a great time listening to the garbage of those who came out to see us and smiling all the while. Early on the older guy came cross and asked if he could call anyone for us . We needed some help!! He came back a while later and took the Freep line photo for us. On departure I crossed the street and told the officers we were from Free Republic and gave them a copy of the DC Chapter rules and advise that we tried to follow them. They were quite pleased to learn who we really were ant that someone had taken the initiative to actually create rules to reduce cause for trouble. They thanked us for delivering a much needed message.
And then it was time to go
we waited till a little after 7:00 because there were late comers
. Clintoon types dontcha know.
Maybe the ping list will have an interest

That's virtually all Free Republic ever manages anymore... a few. But you still did good, and thanks for showing up.
Gore actually admitted that his family was disturbed at dinnertime in 2000 when they heard the very loud chants of GET OUT OF CHENEY'S HOUSE.
While out driving on the day the Supreme Court decided to not allow him to steal the election, I heard one of the great radio moments ever. On the news, they played a clip of him discussing his Christmas party. He told people that, if they couldn't remember exactly where he lived, it was at the end of the street where they were chanting GET OUT OF CHENEY'S HOUSE.
I was at that one. :-) Good time!
With a 10,000 sq. ft. house, why rent a hotel?
Superstar! ;)
Semper "I" - I like it! Describes Murtha to a T (or an I, more accurately).
The Power of One.. David slew Goliath, yaknow ;-)
Thanks to the local Tennesseans
How much sweeter could victory be?
Good Job Bert!!!
hellinahandcart's husband (sauropod)
Nice work, thanks to all three of you!
Thanks for the FReep, it seems Murthawa got the message. :-)
I just drove in from Nashville.
It was great seeing the sick look on all those limosene (sp) liberal' faces.
Bert forgot to tell you about the one jogger who stopped and engaged us for awhile. He had all the Dimocrat talking points downpat, including hating Cheney and Rumsfeld (why is it they hate those two so much -- more than Bush). He tried to tell us that Bush said this war would be so easy. Bert and I both said he never said that -- and asked him to provide us with a quote.
He said there were no WMD, the Iraq war was a mistake, nada, nada. When Bert told him to go to FreeRepublic.com for lots of evidence of WMD the guy said "Oh, so you're freepers!!!!!!!!"
There were some honks of approval, one guy gave a thumbs down, and a girl going to the Gore event rolled down the car window and gave us a peace sign.
My favorite was the two guys in suits who stood there glaring at us for some time before giving us the one finger salute. Then one of the cops said later "I've seen those guys, who are they?"
Good question. Unfortunately we didn't get a photo of them -- shucks, they might be famous or something:)
Can't be having the riff raff into the "big house" to see how the "Democrats" live --- now can we?
Plus -- there may be folks who can recognize stolen governement property, or illegal gifts from the Saudis or the Chinese.. Semper Fi
What a memory to have in your collection.
This war started under Clinton, he just never paid any attention to it and let it be open season on our military and diplomats overseas. Out of sight was good enough for Bubba and his ilk.
Because there were no consequences, the scale of the death toll grew until the enmy was no longer satisfied with overseas military and diplomats. 9/11 is Bill Clinton's legacy.
Of course Clinton defenders will cite Bubba putting a Tomahawk up a camel's butt as Clinton defending us, but I'll use the liberal talking point in reply, "Why did Clinton attack a camel that never attacked us?"
