Terror plot suspects bugged by MI5 'sneak and peak' teams
Daily Mail (UK) ^ | Aug. 21, 2006 | JASON LEWIS

MI5 agents secretly infiltrated a bomb factory and found liquid explosives and detonators weeks before they foiled the plot to blow up America-bound passenger jets flying from British airports.

The covert raids on homes of key terror suspects were also used to plant bugs and gather hours of crucial evidence against them.

The carefully planned 'sneak and peek' operation involved members of the SAS and other surveillance specialists. It allowed the Security Service to eavesdrop on the suspected terrorists in the weeks before they were arrested.

It would have been much better to have more concern for the terrorists' "civil rights" and allow them to blow up the 10 planes with the thousands of innocent passengers. (/SARCASM) -- but that is exactly what our US Democrats want, when they want Bush to stop the NSA phone intercepts of terrorist suspects and monitoring of their financisl transactions. This is why, if we value our lives we must not allow the Dems to take control of Congress and the Presidency.

The democratic party leadership should be either doing hard time or being hanged.

After being appropriately tried for treason -- there is plenty of evidence.

A senior Whitehall security source warned last night that the public should not be complacent despite MI5's recent success.

He said: "Until six weeks ago this plot was one of a dozen being prioritised by MI5. Intelligence received pushed this plot to the top of the list but the other dozen plots remain and are still being investigated. These are very worrying times."

Sweet dreams, and good night everybody.

"In earlier, unrelated, anti-terrorist operations, MI5 specialists had managed to remove explosive compounds from one terror cell and replace it with inert material. "

The ACLU here would be all over them for this one.

I think for every terror plot that is revealed in publis, there are dozens if not more, that we foil, but never reveal in public.

You're not going to hear another word about the NSA phone intercepts, nor the surveillance on financial records, nor the sharing of phone records by phone companies.

Uncovering this plot has proven that the Democrats and "civil libertarians" were wrong, wrong, wrong to object in the first place.

What did Bush know and when did he know it? Why didn't he leak this info weeks ago to the NY Times...or at least tell some congressmen who would leak it. /sarc

More good info in this article:

US officials reveal how MI5 tracked terror plot

Reports from the US, which usually reveal more detail than is given out in London, have revealed that the current plot stemmed from examining the Pakistan link to the 7 July bombers.

“MI5 tracked everyone involved in the London attacks,” an official told the New York Times. “Their movements, phone calls and emails, everything. It was comprehensive in the same way as the FBI’s post-9/11 investigation.”

This was what allowed them to insert an undercover officer, filling the gap in human intelligence exposed in both MI5 and the CIA in the aftermath of the 11 September attacks.

====

Note, we are not seeing any polls about how many people support NSA intercepts today, in view of the discovery and foiling of this horrendous plots, using those very methods. I bet it's 95%.

Amen, with Harry Reid screaming we killed the Patriot Act and potential impeachment proceedings over the NSA wiretapping decision this is going to make for some great campaigning.... Bottom line the GOP needs to get out there now and start swinging away with the charges that the Dems are weak. Who cares if they charge GOP Politicizes Terror... DUH it is the most important political issue of our time. Either we fight and live or we Hide and die.... its time the GOP tells America to CHOOSE

It's as if the espionage and electronic surveillance part of
The Cold War never really ended.

I pray we win this thing.
And that fifty years from now, we can have a whole cable/pay
channel devoted to the worldwide undercover work by faceless agents
and computer/tech geeks preventing G-d-Only-Knows how many of these plots.

I think "The Death of Jihad Channel" would do nicely.

From another article just posted:

Britain's Al-Qaeda leader seized

The thwarting of the alleged plot has, however, failed to quash continuing fears among counter-terrorist experts. Senior security officials have briefed ministers that a “second phase” of attacks may be about to be launched.

Ayman al-Zawahiri, Al-Qaeda’s deputy head, is said to have warned in a message placed on a restricted extremists’ website last month that the terrorist group was planning two large-scale attacks this autumn.

Are Harry Reid and Dick Turban out there assuring us that this kind of investigation may happen in England but it won't happen here in the US, not on their watch?

Hellooooo? Dick and Harry?

That this plot was foiled utilizing procedures condemned by Russ Feingold means that Feingold needs to be made to eat his words.
