Romney, Kerry spar over fight on terror - Governor raps senator for criticizing Iraq war
Boston Glob ^ | August 12, 2006 | Rick Klein

WASHINGTON -- The terrorist attack foiled by British authorities prompted a battle of words yesterday between a pair of presidential contenders from Massachusetts, with Governor Mitt Romney lashing out at Senator John F. Kerry for suggesting that the war in Iraq has harmed the nation's security.

Kerry, the Democrats' 2004 presidential nominee, seized on news of the disrupted plot as a ``stark reminder" that Osama bin Laden remains at large and said it shows that Al Qaeda has ``grown in strength" since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

``Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda have succeeded in isolating the United States," Kerry, a Democrat, said during a conference call organized on behalf of Patrick Murphy, a Democratic candidate in a Pennsylvania House race. ``Afghanistan and Pakistan are where the fight against Al Qaeda is, not in Iraq."

Asked about Kerry's comments during an appearance on the MSNBC cable network, Romney blasted Kerry. The governor said the senator failed to recognize that the United States is locked in a long-term war against terrorists and that Iraq is a central front.

``I think it shows a complete lack of understanding of the kind of enemy that we're facing," said Romney, a Republican. ``This is not a small group of wackos in the hills that all we have to do is go find one person and it suddenly goes away."

'try to hide from evil and it merely follows you home'

Kerry and his friends got the fax last night to harp on NO WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION...all day long on radio and TV I heard the same tired mantra....

I hope the Israelis can get into the Bekka Valley before the shooting match gets called off...

Newt and Allen are also against amnesty, while the others are not. Just thought you should know.

Because we just took out a MA flip flopper why would we turn around and nominate our own?

When romney ran for senate against kennedy he was pro abort, pro gay rights, pro affirmitive action, pro pretty much every liberal social issue. He bashed the contract with america and tried to run away from most national republicans. Even when he ran as governor in 2002 he still kept his social liberal mantra and tried to keep away from national republiccans, and it 2004 after he realized he wanted to run for president he started jiggling to the right. Thats why freepers don't like him.

Poor John Kerry. He still thinks he is relevant and will get the Democrat Party's nomination in 2008. Poor fool can't see that all his attacks on the President is just doing the dirty work for the real nominee.

Romney is a solid candidate for 2008. Maybe Newt as VP?

Right!! Iraq is the "central front in the war on terror".
We ARE flushing them out. (They can't help themselves.)
The Dems are sooo stupid. Do they actually think we should be chasing our own tail in Afganistan? We learned something from the Russian, I'd say.

This thread is waaaay old. Newt anywhere on the ticket is a solid disaster. The guy's baggage will sink him.

Romney is not a solid candidate. We just eviscerated kerry for being a flip flopper from MA, the dems will do the same to romney. He was pro abort, pro gay(wanted to be more pro gay than kennedy), pro aff action, pro gun controL(still is for what we know), pro civl unions. He bashed national republicans and the contract with america. Told family groups to shove it during his 1994 election.

Here's a prime exceprt of something that will sink romney (this is an article about the romney kennedy debate)

Kennedy attempted to link Romney several times during the debate to conservatives such as Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.) and accused him of trying to return the country to the policies of the Reagan-Bush administrations.

Romney objected to the characterizations, saying: "I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I'm not trying to return to Reagan-Bush."

"Mitt Romney's command of national security is about as real as the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq," Wade said.

Clueless people can be particularly hillarious when displaying their ignorance/denial of the facts.
