On Thursday, President Bush said this week's foiled plot to blow up airplanes over the Atlantic is part of a "war with Islamic fascists."
Immediately, Muslim activists condemned the president's use of the phrase, with one group declaring it "counterproductive to associate Islam or Muslims with fascism."
As the newspaper that first put a variant of this term into public circulation in the United States, we'd simply say this: The Muslims who tried to blow up these airplanes are in fact fascists.
This might be worrisome to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, whose raison d'etre is raising the specter of anti-Muslim backlash. But that doesn't make it untrue.
Fascism is a chauvinistic political philosophy that exalts a group over the individual -- usually a race or nation, but in this case the adherents of a religion. Fascism also espouses centralized autocratic rule by that group in suppression of others. It usually advocates severe economic and social regimentation and the total or near-total subordination of the individual to the political leadership. This accurately describes the philosophies of Hitler, Mussolini, the leaders of Imperial Japan and other fascistic regimes through history. It also describes Thursday's terrorists.

Bell the cat bump...
A fascist is a fascist is a fascist. Kudos to the WT for calling a spade a spade.
Just calling it like it is.
Not all Islamics are terrorists. But aren't all terrorists Islamic?
the President and his spokesmen must continue to use the phrase, "islamofascist" or "islamonazi." It must be drilled into the public consciousness.
None dare call it ISLAMOFACISM!
Now, if we can get back to calling China, Communists, it will be a start.
I recall years ago when all this thing started, people were arguing over what to call it and that the White House constant use of the phrase War on Terror , War on Terrorism, terrorists is the wrong phrase. The correct term is war on islamofascism, islamofascists, islamonazis
war on terror is the political correct term
war on islamofascists is calling a spade a spade
Bush (rightfully) called it a "crusade" after 9-11 and smeared by the MSM.
W Times' "We shudder to think..." editorial about the NYT should be printed on their masthead.
CAIR needs to announce that "Jihad is NOT the answer!", no matter what the question.
The chances of the Pope converting to Islam are much more likely than CAIR announcing ANYTHING that would even come close to criticizing Jihad.
Absolutely. Interestingly, there were, according to Fox this am, two Muslim women among the group arrested in the UK. One of the women is said to have tipped the cops off about the plot. If they release her, they'd better put her in protective custody far, far away.
The Washington Times and Investors Business Daily are the only two newspapers in American without Neville Chamberlain rose colored glasses on.
CAIR can't hide the open display of LOVE Muzzies have for Hitler, nor can they cover up the fact that Hitlers 'Mein Kampf' is still a best seller in Islamic countries.
