Sacrificing your life to TAKE life is the opposite of offering to sacrifice yourself to SAVE life.

Isn't Brian Williams the same "reporter" that made the "sloppy seconds" comment about Alito?

Does anybody have the video of that? I have been looking for it for a project in the works ;-).

There were American civilians in Manila that felt the same way on New Years day... 1942. The potential, evil ignorance of these swine eclipses the barbarity of the Imperial Japanese... ten-fold!

I think you're right. Brian reminds me of Petah Jennings, a handsome man with a fine voice who has a gift for reading a teleprompter on air, but who has below average intelligence and a mediocre education. He was ineptly trying to point out that we have soldiers willing to risk death to fight this war. Of course, he completely missed Matthews' point, which was if our strategy is to get the islamofascists to adopt Western ways and therefore stop trying to kill us, the British terrorists appear to say it's not working.

These people are insular and live among their own communities. They are not assimilated into our culture.

Do you mean Muslims or liberals?
Your post doesn't make this point clear.

The same can be said about Chris Matthews and Brian Williams.

There are differences in the Kamikazes, and the Douglas TBD torpedo bomber crews that went to their death at Midway. That Williams can't understand it is hardly surprising...

Good morning.
"You don't sacrifice the living to save the dead."

I would say those two good Delta troopies who dropped in to try to save the downed aircrew in Mogadishu knew what was going to happen, but they chose to try to do the job.

Mike Durant is likely alive because of their sacrifice.

Like I said, if there is a chance of success, brave men will make the attempt. If it's known to be nothing but suicide and all those in the line of danger are going to die... find another way but don't just go along to die with them.

Good morning.
"find another way but don't just go along to die with them."

Yet those two heroes did and one man is alive because of it.

Makes no sense, does it? I think that is part of what separates troops like those from people like Brian Williams and the Islamist murderers. I also think Williams will never understand.

"In our first edition of Hardball tonight we had a Senator on, former Senator John Edwards on, who said that once these people in the east, in the Islamic world, get to know us personally, understand our character -- our good character as he said -- they wouldn't hate us so much, they wouldn't want to commit suicide to hurt us.

Talk about not getting it.

Ditto.

Mr. Williams...Uh, Mr. Williams...Uh, Mr. Williams...

Now, once again, Mr. Williams. Why, pray tell, are you equating our people with terrorists? They have no morals. Find yours and stop the nonsense...

With all due respect to nutmeg, it bothers me that this is being portrayed as "equating" the two groups.*

In all the focus on this aspect, the main point is being lost--that is, John Edwards was WRONG in his view that Matthews described as: "once these people in the east, in the Islamic world, get to know us personally, understand our character -- our good character as he said -- they wouldn't hate us so much, they wouldn't want to commit suicide to hurt us."!

The suicidal actions, in their view, are not "bad"...so it's folly to think that our culture would change their view toward their actions, without changing that key element--we can't just rely on the "pro-life at all costs" view coming across, since it's not truly a part of our culture.

*Just saying two groups share an element in common doesn't equate them, and the difference between suicidally taking civilian lives versus giving one's own life on a suicidal mission (e.g., Gordon and Shughart) doesn't detract from the point that our culture involves elements of self-sacrifice of life to meet personal objectives.

Dang, I wish I could state this more clearly! I hope the points made it across! :-)

Sacrificing your life to TAKE life is the opposite of offering to sacrifice yourself to SAVE life.

Well, the 9/11 bombers were more than three millennia behind the times on the idea of terminating three thousand people by killing oneself in bringing down a building...

27 Now the temple was crowded with men and women; all the rulers of the Philistines were there, and on the roof were about three thousand men and women watching Samson perform. 28 Then Samson prayed to the LORD, "O Sovereign LORD, remember me. O God, please strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes." 29 Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other, 30 Samson said, "Let me die with the Philistines!" Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived.   Judges 16:27-30 (KJV)
