oops, the title is FARTHER Along
no intention here to try to convert you or anythingNo intention presumed. I enjoy these kind of discussions, and am never put off by the "possibility of intentions".
We all have our various intentions, after all. One of which is to share ideas; another is to influence what others think.
Be that as it may, I faced the question "what if I am wrong" years ago and have answered it satisfactorily to myself. It goes something like this: the preponderance of the evidence (to my mind) points to the bible as being a cultural artifact, not a divine one, and I honestly and sincerely choose to go with what I honestly and sincerely see as the preponderance of the evidence.
That doesn't mean the bible is lacking in truth. There are abundant truths there, hence the greatness of Western Civilization. But was it written by God, as described in the bible itself? To me (and here my intention is NOT to convert), the preponderance of the evidence says: no.
How would the NYT's cover a bunch of Marines who cut off a Muslim's male organs and stuffed them in the guys decapitated head?
The NYT's would still be screaming about it. But when Islamist do it, hardly a peep. Two standards - the easy one for the monsters, the impossibly hard one for the good guys.
I'm sick of liberal elitist white guilt masquerading as compassion. It's bullsh_t. Period.
No conversion taken ;^)
Fair enough.
