Yup. They hate Moynihan. What he predicted about the "Great Society" has come to fruition.

""I think, a disaster for the Democratic Party, and it's going to be very interesting to see what happens as a result of it."

- I think what the Cokester is referring to is that a Lamont win will provide a boost to the kook fringe of the Democratic Party to become even more aggressive in their opposition to moderate Dem candidates and encourage even more pandering to their views thus causing the entire Party to swing even further left. This will lose them the moderate Dem vote as they leave them behind.
The kooky left will become feared and even Hitlery may be forced to abandon her current triangulation and obfuscation on the Iraq war and become a mini-me Lamont just to keep the money rolling in.
As someone said, Karl Rove must think he's died and gone to Heaven - and maybe just in time to save the Republican's the House in November and the Presidency in 2008.

"I have a question for those who follow Conn politics. Is there a chance for a Republican to win in November if Lamont wins the Dem nod and Lieberman runs as an Independent?"

The Republican running doesn't have a snowballs chance in you know where.

As the "hapless" freeper you were probably referring to, let me defend myself. I proposed Lieberman as SOD as a way of winning the mid-term elections by splitting the Dems and showing how crazy the majority of the Democratic party has become. I agree with you that this is a war for Western civilization, but the only way we have a chance of winning it is by keeping the nut party out of power by doing whatever it takes (including putting a sensible Dem in a position where he his job is to implement the President's foreign policy). Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move ahead.

Bill Kristol's proposal of the same idea does scare me a little, but I'm not worried that I'll become a full-fledged McCainiac anytime soon.

Allright Suzy, but remember when Liberman is appointed to some cabinet head for his twilight tour in DC that I told you so. If it can swing 4 - 5% of the voters in the Conn/NY area it would be considered Rovian.

I always find it strange that the liberals like Stepanopoulos are not shocked by the truth of what someone is saying as much as that they are saying it....and saying it on his show.

I used to as well....wonder how the msm for example can't figure out that their liberal bias is directly related to their viewerhip/redership loss. Until I figured it out, they are cheerleaders for the libs and could care less about reality.

They keep talking about how the "Democrat Party has moved to the left", but they fail to say that when they made that move, they became Socialists. Cokie, George nor any of them can bear to say "Socialist", because that's saying something terrible about what the Democrat Party has become. This presents a huge problem for the RATS!

At the convention where Mr. Bush 1st won the nomination, Cokie was running around interviewing conservative republicans. scowling at each. Quite a contrast to the dem convention where she went around gushing and smiling while talking to fools like Kennedy and both clintons.
Cokie is a liberal democRAT and is so biased she isn't worth the air she breaths.

I can't decide which I would love more... To see the Nutroots crushed and crestfallen on Wednesday or to see them get all enthusiastic about having an actual Senator for Kosalvania, only to be crushed in November.

Either way, it would be sweet.

Ultimately, it would have to come down to the possibility that an actual real-live RINO Republican might win if a three way race went into the Fall, so I would have to opt defer my pleasure and go for a November krushing.

On the other hand, if Lamont loses tomorrow, it would be the Democrats slipping the knife into the moonbats' back, which would be awful sweet as well. It is one thing to be defeated by your enemies. It is another thing altogether to be done in by your friends. Plus there are bonus points when the idiot lefties abandon the Donks and go whole-hog Third Party.

But all this is idle speculation on my part. Daydreaming if you will, about how I would script the downfall of the moonbats. The fact remains that my desires do not matter. Lamont will lose tomorrow, and that's the way it is going to go.

By offering him a cabinet position Bush rewards his loyalty on the War on Terror while demonstrating to those 40-45% voters that they have a home in the Republican party.

Pure sophistry and bad for the country. I don't want Joe Lieberman in charge of DOD. He has neither the executive experience or background. The largest group of people he has spervised is a Senate staff. We don't need another Cohen or Perry or Aspin in charge of DOD.

This is very important with respect to the Jewish vote in Conn, NY, RI, Mass, NJ, and Del. I don't think the Dems can afford to lose a majority of any of their ethic block votes and do well nationally. If the NY Jews vote for a Republican President how would Hillary even have a chance of at winning??? "Strategery!!!"

After blacks, Jews are the second most loyal Dem constituency. Just like blacks don't vote on the basis of race, Jews don't vote on the basis of religion. It all has to do with the party. Pandering to either group has no effect on how they will vote.

Bush got less of the black vote than his father and Dole. He did do better with the Jewish vote than his father and Dole did against Clinton, but Bush 41 received 35% of the Jewish vote against Dukakis. Is that the strategery you are talking about?

"Good for the Republicans; Lieberman will run as an independent and split the RAT vote. That's really the only way a Pubbie has a chance."

Those with long memories will know that Lowell Weikert(R-ct) was defeated by Lieberman. Weikert was as liberal as Lieberman, and the New England republicans are still.

I agree, except I'm not sure it will be so squeaky. The Republicans out there know that their candidate has no chance in the general, so I predict many will vote for Lieberman instead. They can vote for either there.

I thought Connecticut was a closed primary. Any Connecticuttians out there who can shed any light on this question?

I agree that if it is an open primary, Lieberman wins at a walk. But I don't think that it is.

We may have to rely on DIEBOLD...
