Meet Joe Lieberman's Worst Nightmare

While Lamont's campaign work ethic may have been underappreciated and underreported, the same can't be said of his online chorus. Very early on, prominent liberal blogs -- including as Daily Kos, MyDD and Political Wire – beat the drums for the Lamont campaign.

Initially, Lamont was viewed almost exclusively as an anti-war alternative to Lieberman. But the Political Wire’s founder, Taegan Goddard, said the blogs’ perception of Lamont has shifted.

“Lamont isn’t a one-issue contender, he’s the real deal. He's an intelligent man with real positions,” Goddard said.

Chris Casey, an 18-year-old Connecticut contributor to NetRootsMovement.com, said Lamont’s candidacy has turned local bloggers into reporters rather than link-posting ranters.

“The bloggers now follow him around and they really support him. I consider myself part of that base,” Casey said last week at an evening poolside Lamont event that he organized. Several bloggers were present, lurking on the outskirts of the well-heeled crowd.

“[Lamont] is the star of YouTube, and he's not even the one doing it. It's these guys stalking him with their shaky cameras,” Casey said.

“Let me tell you what that meant to me,” Lamont said. “At 52, I didn't know too much about the blogs” early on in the race. Lamont said that when he was invited to speak at Naples Pizza in New Haven, he expected 15 or 20 people to show up. But thanks to blogs, there were “120 people hanging from the rafters. And it was thanks to a lot of grassroots energizers like Chris … that all of a sudden across the state we have all sorts of people turning out.”

I guess the CBS reporterette didn't get the new campaign memo saying that Ned Lamont is so embarrassed by the "blackface" cartoon that he's now pretending he's never heard of bloggers.

Of course, the writer does manage to omit the fact that the notorious Jane Hamster (sic) was essentially the official blog for the Ned Lamont campaign until just now.....

You can bet neither Jane Hamsher's worshipful firedoglake followers or the 'Screw Them' Kos Kids will be quoted much, not in any depth or detail. Some of those folks are rabid-crazy, well into Cindy Sheehan territory in terms of things like antisemitism and anti-Americanism and delusional conspiracy theories. I haven't seen such vitriol, well, ever. Ironically, those few posters on these sites who reflect anything approaching genuine open- or fair-mindedness or patriotism are rapidly, ruthlessly shouted down. It's like watching a Soviet-era politburo meeting, complete with denunciations and purges.

In my view, Lamont might win the Democratic primary, but I don't think he can carry these people along into the general election. And Lieberman is savvy: you can bet he'll be highlighting the extremism of the 'netroots'. It's like having a crazy aunt chained in the attic. At some point, people start wondering what's making all of those wild animal noises upstairs.

This just in from the blogosphere:

New Lieberman Art at Daily Kos

Posted in the comments to one of several threads bashing Joe Lieberman today at Daily Kos, we find the following febrile Photoshop fantasies from the “progressive” minds of the Kos Kidz.

This time with the always-popular homosexual slur theme. (Hat tip: DM. And I have screenshots.) link: 346 comments " A great many of the Kosbat Kids (and radical progressives, in general) seem to be in a perpetual state of arrested development. This is just another pathetic display of mental and moral immaturity.""In the world of Islamofascists and Krazy Koz Kidz everything can be spun."

I love how the party of 'tolerance' never misses an opportunity to call someone gay!

If they were the party of 'tolerance' they wouldn't be supporting the jewish-hating, gay-hating, christian-hating, free-women hating Islamic Radicals like they do.

Thanks for the link. "Tolerance" is just a word the Left tosses around, for purposes of cudgelling the Right- they don't really practice it.

I want Joe gone. Getting rid of the moderates in the Democratic party would be good for us. It would drive them further out of the mainstream and weaken them more.

Here's a picture of Ned Lamont at one of his recent rallies. He was heard to say: "Howdy, Kossacks! We're gonna kick Lieberino's ding-dong diddly tuckus!"
