New beer no help to global warming

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Possibly the purest beer in the world has gone on sale in Denmark from a Greenland microbrewery that uses 2,000-year-old water from a melting polar ice cap.

The three-employee Greenland Brewhouse began offering samples at a Greenland festival in Copenhagen Monday where the first 17,200 gallons were shipped from the southern Greenland town of Narsaq, 390 miles south of the Arctic Circle, The Scotsman reported.

"Today, with all the pollution ... you cannot get cleaner water than melted ice-cap water," said Salik Hard, one of the three partners in the venture.

His partners are sales manager Steen Outzen and brewmaster, Rasmus Broge. Hard and Broge have each worked at microbreweries in Copenhagen.

Their initial batches were a dark ale, and a pale one, both with 5.5 percent alcohol.

The brewery has the capacity to produce up to 104,000 gallons a year, all of which will be shipped in bulk for bottling in Stralsund, on Germany's north coast.

So, the question is, does this prevent the sea level from rising? My answer would be no, but it may keep it from rising as quickly...

"...you cannot get cleaner water than melted ice-cap water..."

BS! Distill the water. Ice-cap water is a gimmick.

But they can't make Bass with it - no gypsum in the water :(

"Global warming" wouldn't raise sea levels one bit. Even if the ice caps melted entirely.

Depends how many you drink, and where you drink 'em I guess.

Bunch of drunks watering the ocean, man it sounds like a disaster!

The north pole, yes, because it floats.

However the south pole is a sheet of ice on top of a landmass, which would raise the sea levels.

Global warming as a literal term seems to be real, however, there is more overwhelming evidence that it is a NATURAL cycle. Stone knives and bearskins wouldn't reverse it.

A gimmick indeed. Moreover, transporting water from one wet place (Greenland) to another wet place (northern Germany) releases CO2 as a result of the transport.

And, considering that you only rent beer, it won't reduce the flow of water into the ocean for very long.

Ah! Thanks for the correction on the South Pole. Could be the whole process is designed to get Greenland green again!

Eventually, it might become green land again. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Since it's beer does it come from the yellow ice pack snow? ;-)

Even if the ice caps melted entirely.

Both the Greenland Ice Sheet and Antarctica are sitting on solid land, so if they melted the oceans would rise CONSIDERABLY. In fact, the state of Florida would be completely obliterated here in the US.

The northern ice cap floats, so you're correct there, but the northern cap is only one of three major ice masses on the planet. If Antarctica ever melted, humanity would be REALLY screwed, but that isn't likely to happen. In the real world, the worst case scenario is a Greenland meltdown coupled with a West Antarctic Ice Sheet disintegration and a minor contraction of the eastern sheet. That would bring sea levels up quite a bit...the east coast would look something like this:

Watch out where the huskies go and don't you eat that yellow snow.

My guess is it depends on where you are when you drink it -- or more accurately, where you are the next time you pee -after- drinking it.

It all cycles around. In the sort of scale at which ocean levels can rise and fall perceptibly, all the beer in the world is just a drop in the bucket.

On the other hand, if all the Chinese lined up and took a leak into the ocean at once, maybe you'd see something happen.

I'm just going from memory here, but it looks from your map like global warming is a good thing. It would appear that a lot of blue cities will end up underwater. This could mean some solid red state gains.

...and more beer.

Look on the bright side, perhaps some day we'll be able to have beach-front property on the Rocky Mountain Islands!

"If Antarctica ever melted, humanity would be REALLY screwed, but that isn't likely to happen.

Then there is no reason to bust a gut over it.
