SHANGHAI, China - Chinese police have seized about 6,000 illegal firearms and tons of explosives in a two-month crackdown across three provinces, the government said Tuesday.
About 5,500 weapons including pistols and hunting rifles were taken in the southwestern province of Sichuan, the official Xinhua News Agency said, citing a report from the Public Security Ministry.

Were they criminals before they got the guns, or did they become criminals by having the guns?
Come on we know it's the second statement. Don't you know that the Mommy State (in China's case more like an evil step mother) will be there to defend you--so why do you need a gun?
On the one hand, I'm astonished that 6000 guns were being carried; on the other hand, this must mean that there are probably 600,000 more guns that they DIDN'T get. And .30 cal ammo is probably easy to get from soldiers on the take. Hope they're in the hands of some freedom-loving folks, not just gangsters.
My first thought was the arms for patriots had been found and confiscated .. my second thought was the arms for patriots had been found and confiscated ... but I've anylized my thoughts and now I think ... someone is going to have to re-arm the Chinese patriots .. those that remain alive after this government confiscation.
Hard to know, and of extreme importance. I'm still waiting for China's embrace of (state-controlled) capitalism to bring freedom in China.
