Violent scuffles broke out between police and pro-Lebanon protesters who mobbed Australia's prime minister Saturday demanding more government action to bring peace in the Middle East, a news agency reported.
Prime Minister John Howard was leaving a state conference of his Liberal Party in the west coast city of Perth when about 200 protesters of Lebanese descent mobbed his car, Australian Associated Press said.
Protesters punched and kicked police and threw projectiles at the car, AAP reported.
Howard's entourage sped from the scene as police wrestled protesters to the ground, it said.
At least one protester was arrested and taken away by police.
Protest leader Muhammad El Khatib said he has family in Lebanon and the Australian government was not doing enough to broker peace in the region.
"Hizbullah is protecting Lebanon, they are freedom fighters, not terrorists," he said.

Maybe the arabs need to get off their lazy a$$es and realize that they are the problem?? We are in a war of idealism and theirs is EVIL. Just as Nazism was defeated in Germany so must islam be defeated in the middle east. Islam IS NOT A RELIGION! It is a cult that preaches death to non-islamics. Until they can be brought into the present there will be no peace. I'm all for TOTAL WAR! Screw collateral damage. If they allow terrorists to hide behind them then they become a target. It's the terrorists fault. If Israel blows the hell out of something in Lebanon it is the terrorists fault.

Don't bother trying to tell me this was an indigenous-to-Australia, grass-roots ground swell. I know it must've been ordered up in Teheran, Damascus, Beirut, or at that recent pan-Hizbollic conference.

Protest leader Muhammad El Khatib said he has family in Lebanon and the Australian government was not doing enough to broker peace in the region. Is anyone shocked that the leader of the violent protesters is named Muhammed? Time to deport this guy.

I was in the Imperial War Museum London yesterday.
thought you might be interested in this quote I picked up there,
"The essence of war is violence, to moderate it is imbecility."
I'll have to check who it is attributable to.
I went around the Holocaust exhibition which has been a bit sanitized so that kids can go in (age 14). Can anyone support antisemitism after seeing that industrial genocide and humiliation of a peoples? Could anyone deny the Jews a homeland.
the Nazi propaganda in the exhibition was frighteningly similar to the contemporary Arab/Muslim output especially in their cartoons and mythologies.
Thanks for this post
kind regards.

Every effort to 'sanitize' the holocaust, and minimize the attacks on 9/11 do nothing but contribute to the possibility of a repeat of those horrors.

Well, it was done so children could see it. Maybe they could have a separate exhibit for children and a completely unsanitized version for adults.
Better that children learn about different dangers in the world gradually as they mature and become ready for each one, rather than being hit in the face with it all when they're 18.

I think that is a wise view. My daughter, 14 was very impressed (in the right way) by the exhibition.

Story should read 200 Islamic fanatics arrested and shipped home to Lebanon and dropped near a UN outpost from 10,000 feet.

Mr. Howard can certainly do more to broker peace, by more forcefully insisting that the hezbos surrender unconditionally and immediately.
But I don't think that this is what these proooootesters want.
But the vanquishing of the enemy, his complete and total pacification, is the only road to peace and the sooner it is realized the better.
