A new poll by Insider Advantage shows challenger Hank Johnson with a hefty lead over incumbent Cynthia McKinney in the Democratic run-off for the 4th District congressional race.
The poll shows Johnson leading McKinney, 46 to 21 percent, with a third of voters undecided. The survey recorded the responses of 489 likely voters and has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 5 percent.
Run-offs are notorious for low turnout, which often makes telephone surveys unreliable. Matt Towery, CEO of InsiderAdvantage, said he was unwilling to say that McKinney was headed for certain defeat. "But is she in deep, deep, deep, deep troube? Yes," he said.
Towery said McKinney and Johnson split the African-American vote in the district, which makes up nearly 53 percent of the electorate. But an overwhelming number of white voters surveyed, who make up 42 percent of the 4th District electorate, said they preferred Johnson.
Towery said his poll also detected some interest among Republicans in the race, which would also work against McKinney. In last week's vote, many Republicans stuck to their own races, headlined by the confrontation between Ralph Reed and Casey Cagle in the GOP race for lieutenant governor.
"But for every Republican who voted on July 18, another was out of town at the beach," Towery said. Anyone who did not vote on July 18 is eligible to cast a ballot in the Aug. 8 run-off.
OH>>>> Be still my heart!!!
Let me not be dissapointed!!
As much as I would like to see McKinney get the boot again, I would rather have her stupid carcass in Washington than another Democrat with half a brain.
A Rat with half a brain would be more like a Republican.
It's the Jews. J.E.W.S.
RAT for a RAT, who cares..
McKinney pronounces it "JOOOZE"
The War in Iraq is and always has been a mistake, and I have stood by this position since before Day One.
The alleged weapons programs and stockpiles simply did not exist, and it is unacceptable that we are now engaged in such unnecessary and destructive conflict.
The human toll is tragic, the economic burden enormous, the erosion of international respect for our country devastating.
This war is a product of irresponsible and inept leadership, but I intend to bring a fresh, sensible voice to discuss these issues in Washington.
Cindy McKinney? No, Hank Johnson.
Do you know if her father is still around?
Here's an interesting spin on this from Neal Boortz:

CYNTHIA WATCH
OK ... I've pretty much decided that I want Cynthia McKinney to win her primary runoff against Hank Johnson. Either way, a Democrat wins, so why not root for the Democrat who will be the most ineffectual? Why not root for the Democrat who will be the greatest embarrassment to the Democrat Party and to the Congressional Black Caucus?
Now, having said that, I will be sure to give you the latest news on the activities and comments of The Cutest Little Jihadist in Congress as we move toward the primary runoff. Our pal Jamie Dupree tells us that Cynthia has been a no-show this week in Washington. She did have an official leave-of-absence for votes cast on Monday and Tuesday, but she was supposed to be back at work, representing the people of Georgia's 4th Congressional District, on Wednesday. She wasn't. She wasn't there Thursday either. This week she has missed 19 votes on the House floor. One of the votes she missed was the attempt to override Bush's veto of the stem cell bill. She also missed a vote on a constitutional amendment on gay marriage.
There is no word on whether or not Cynthia will return to Washington next week. Who knows? Maybe she sees the handwriting on the wall. Maybe she knows that she has a slim chance of prevailing in the primary runoff and has decided to start her retirement early.
In the meantime, those evil Diebold machines are just waiting for her to pack her bags.
Can a machine be a racist?
I have no idea. He could have died, I don't really know. I only hear about that area by listening to WSB 750 at night, when Kris Krok is on (10 to 2).
That's hard to argue with.
I know it's tough but is Johnson as stupid as McKinney? Anything is possible in this pathetic district.
In ten years in congress the only bill that McKinney wrote was changing the name of a post office. She is slowly catching up to John Kerry.
That, and the likelihood she'll slug another cop.
I'm rooting for Johnson too, on those two conditions.
Defeat for Kos, defeat for cop assaulters.
no, no ,no she also sponsored "tupac shakur assasination records act"( the ex-gang banger rap artist supreme) to be established so that at a later time this horrible crime could be solved and determine if there was a racist goverment plot to exterminate him and cover up of such act
Not just trouble, but 4x deep trouble. Now that's trouble.
That, and the likelihood she'll slug another cop.
I'm rooting for Johnson too, on those two conditions.
Defeat for Kos, defeat for cop assaulters.

* Pro-Israel Lobby Targets Georgia Democrat
FOES TAKE AIM AT MCKINNEY IN SURPRISE GEORGIA RACE - TOP
Jennifer Siegel, Forward, 7/28/06

A surprisingly close race involving one of the pro-Israel community's least favorite lawmakers, Rep. Cynthia McKinney, is poised to become a Middle East proxy fight. McKinney, a left-wing Georgia Democrat with a long history of criticizing Israel, finds herself in an unexpected run-off election after failing to win a majority in her July 18 primary. A defeat in the August 8 runoff would be McKinney's second ouster from Congress in four years and cap a series of major gaffes, including her delayed apology after allegedly hitting a Capitol Hill police officer in March. For months, McKinney, whose district includes parts of the Atlanta suburbs, has been raising out-of-state money from Muslim and Arab Americans. Now, with her stumble in the primary, the legislator's pro-Israel critics are quickly rallying behind her rival, former DeKalb County Commissioner Hank Johnson. Like McKinney, Johnson is an African-American.
"He's just sky-rocketing in popularity," said Rabbi Neil Sandler, the religious leader of Atlanta's Ahavath Achim Synagogue, which hosted Johnson at a pro-Israel rally on July 23. According to Sandler, the audience gave Johnson a "tremendous ovation," the most enthusiastic response of any of the politicians in attendance.
After learning of McKinney's unexpected runoff, several of the country's largest pro-Israel political action committees are rushing to make contributions, with an eye toward arming Johnson with sufficient cash to purchase valuable television and radio advertising. (MORE)
Time for Cynthia to start brainstorming to think up ways she's going to cheat and subvert the election process.
To quote my favorite actor, Special Ed (Crank Yankers) Yeaaaaaaa.
I stand corrected. LOL!
Hey Cynthia, you are so far gone that your own party wants you defeated.
How could she drop to 21% when she got 47% of the vote?
Congress is where she belongs. Where else can a totally worthless fat black racist get paid to do nearly nothing?
Even on McDonalds fry ling she'd actually have to work, congress is the only place for her.
Go Lieberman and McKinney!!
It's all dem JOOS fault.
Nope.
let them be served by somebody more than 1/2 of a brain.
They at least need a democrat with more than 1/8 of a brain.
I heard she sponsored legislation to fine pharmaceutical companies for every bottle of aspirin sold.
She claimed they were racist, because in order to get to the aspirin you had to pick cotton.
WHAT WELCOME NEWS! THANKS!
Would be good to see such a district have some horse sense for a change.
That self-serving arrogant bw*tch sure needs turned out to pasture in the lower 48 . . . the one with lots of rattlers . . . some of her own kind.
LOL! I started to guess that she was going to introduce legislation requiring 15% of all aspirins to be black. ;-)
Reasonable points.
Best pray for God's highest will in that race, clearly.

McKinney says she will show up for the debate....I wonder if she will
