The oldest paper ever found has the Tocharian language written on it.
Professor Victor Mair believes these people (The Curse Of The Red-Headed Mummy) are descendents of the Tocharian speaking people.
Also. in his book,The Tarim Mummies, he says that the Tocharian language is most closely related to an ancient Celtic language.
The red haired mummies with Celtic style dresses found in Tarim Basin of Western China are generally considered Tokarians or their ancestors.

I can't read you "BCE" time periods. What are those in B.C. and A.D.?
Say that again? The Tocharians didn't indulge in the early palatization of their velars?
Truly shocking beyond belief!
from the planet Tochis?
It may be that it was common for Scythians to live in wagons rather than houses, i.e., to be nomadic. If the Tocharians were of this group there might be drawings of these ancient winnebagos.

Great post, blam. I am thankful that there is a core of Freepers interested in this kind of material and that you and SunkenCiv keep us all informed.
That was fascinating. Aren't the Scots and Irish descended from the Scythians?
Bringing this current..... is Al Doury the redheaded, uncaptured associate of Saddam a Tocharian?
But then, why am I on this thread?
Tocharians are very interesting people. The red haired mummy. Ancient Chinese literature had accounts of red and blonde hairs with blue or green eyed people amongst them. They were White emperors, shamans, and generals. I would not be surprised if Koreans and Japanese have some Tocharian in them.
