A Concerted Effort Against Valerie Plame?
NationalReview ^ | 7-26-06 | Byron York

Valerie Plame Wilson, the woman at the center of the CIA-leak investigation, says she played no role in sending her husband, former ambassador Joseph Wilson, to Niger in 2002 to investigate reports of Iraqi attempts to buy uranium.

“She vehemently denies that she had anything to do with suggesting Joseph Wilson do this,” says Erwin Chemerinsky, the Duke University law professor who is representing the Wilsons in their recently filed lawsuit against Vice President Dick Cheney, top White House adviser Karl Rove, former vice-presidential chief of staff Lewis Libby, and ten unidentified co-defendants. “She has said to me that she had nothing to do with sending Joseph Wilson to do the investigation.”

Although her husband has often made that claim, Valerie Plame Wilson has never commented publicly on the issue. The statement from her lawyer is the closest she has come to making a declaration of her own.

Her assertion conflicts with a conclusion reached by Republicans on the Senate Intelligence Committee. In a 2004 report, Republicans on the committee wrote that

'interviews and documents provided to the committee indicate that [Wilson’s] wife, a [Counterproliferation Division, or CPD] employee, suggested his name for the trip. The CPD reports officer told committee staff that the former ambassador’s wife ‘offered up his name’ and a memorandum to the Deputy Chief of the CPD on February 12, 2002, from the former ambassador’s wife says, ‘my husband has good relations with both the PM [prime minister] and the former Minister of Mines (not to mention lots of French contacts), both of whom could possibly shed light on this sort of activity.’

Mrs. Wilson’s assertion also conflicts with one key statement in the indictment charging Lewis Libby with perjury. In his chronology of events leading up to the publication of Mrs. Wilson’s name, CIA leak prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald writes, “On or about June 11, 2003, Libby spoke with a senior officer of the CIA to ask about the origin and circumstances of Wilson’s trip, and was advised by the CIA officer that Wilson’s wife worked at the CIA and was believed to be responsible for sending Wilson on the trip.”

She probably got the documents shredded. Either that or the Bergler is at it again.

Her 15 minutes are so up.

Her fifteen minutes was up long ago.

Well, I suppose being clad in Versace and tripping to a function is wonderful, but oh-so-awful when your name drops off the "A" list.

Three day old fish and tedious celebrity are never welcome.

We'll see if her story changes once she is under oath.

It would be sweet payback if Joe Wilson or Valerie Plame ended up being the ones going to jail for perjury, instead of Scooter.

Hahahahahahaha!!! She's denying that she played a role in ole Joe's middle east visit like ole Joe is denying that he outed his wifey at the many Washington DC social parties. "I'm a victim" agenda is all too clear in this case.

Not only that .. there is a memo or an email with her signature - suggesting that her husband be sent on the trip to Niger.

How can she now say that she didn't have anything to do with sending him. ANOTHER LIE which the drive-by media will support.

Let's face it. Clowny and Slutty know they have no chance to win this ridiculously thin lawsuit using misrepresentations about Fitzgerald's findings as its basis. It's not about winning a lawsuit. This is a put up job by the Democrats for p.r. in an election year. This is about trying to make the Bush administration look bad and to gain political advantage, that's all. They know they can't win and that this lawsuit will never see the light of day in a jury trial. The Wilsons and their Democratic puppeteers just know they can use this lawsuit to play the media like a fiddle to bludgeon the Bush administration.

And when a judge eventually dismisses this, as he will, the Wilsons and their Democratic puppeteers know the media will never give the dismissal the same publicity and attention as the original filing of the lawsuit. It is an undeniable truth of the US media culture that when it comes to Republicans or members of the US military, the exhoneration never gets any publicity, or even close to the same publicity, as the original allegations. Clowny, Slutty and the Treason Party know that and this is what's behind what they're doing.

As I recall from reading the Sebate report, it turned out the CIA actually paid for THREE (3) trips to Niger by Joe Wilson, during which he scavenged for clients of his consulting business (no doubt dropping hints about his CIA connections to impress the natives) and then Joa came back and did lunch with a CIA officer as a form of "debriefing".

Trips to podunk on the CIA dime can be very expensive (first class airfare, overnights in Paris with luxury hotels, etc).

I don't doubt that Joe spent 20,000-30,000 of CIA money on his junkets. And Valerie was the only entre to his getting CIA travel money that I can figure.

Semantics. As she did not have the power to send him, she could have "nothing to do with sending him. Which does not mean she did not recommend him.
